@researchfairy Or they could just show the lead-up and then skip the scene, like many movies do with sex-scenes.

@futurebird I desperately wanted a Meccano set (Erector set in the US). And a big 'ol Bowie knife I could strap to my leg. Every year I was told I'd been a good little girl and would get just what I wanted. I'd tear off the wrapping... and there would be yet another doll of some description that I never touched again. Made me a hardened cynic very early on.

The sky was on fire tonight.

So is my mind.

Saw this in mid-town Toronto. Somebody got creative in their driveway to make a hanging garden.

Much better than just a barren driveway.

What should this type of structure be called?

Since I have migrated instances (thank you beige.party admins), by way of introduction here is my little inside corner of creation. A lot of my music is soundtrack to my mostly non-existent writing. Links to both are in my bio. I also spend some time outside with plants when the weather cooperates. Sometimes I make bread.

Not feeling great today but this made me smile. I'd like to congratulate Navi Pillay for her very well earned Nobel Peace Prize.

"Perhaps it was meant to be that I was in this historic courtroom... when the announcement was made and I was informed of the award," Pillay said. "We are living through an era when international law and human rights are under significant political attack ... This worsening reality is particularly visible with the attacks on the International Criminal Court."

She noted that she was lauded by the Nobel committee for her courage, which she questioned, saying: "You can imagine how surprised I was. Why would you need courage to speak the truth? You interpret the law, you look at all the facts, so it's an impartial decision you make."

Netherlands asks EU to prepare 'blocking statute' to protect ICC from further US sanctions

"...there are individual countries that feel the US is increasing the pressure, and they cannot simply ignore that," said Berendsen.

"His remarks came after The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that US President Donald Trump's administration is preparing to implement expansive economic sanctions against the court."

#ScribesAndMakers 2026.10.09 — Our next featured creator is a 'relentless optimist.' How full is your glass?

50% liquid, 50% air. That's 100%. I'm not really an optimist,* just kinda geeky. And I do not live in a vacuum.

* I would like to be an optimist, but I doubt it would work out.

FediHood came first in the poll. Many of you voted to support my projects, and I want to make good use of it.
Idea: a timeline in #Fedilab with public posts from people and #Lemmy groups near you, relying entirely on #FediHood and its API.

It would be opt-in and only available in the Fedilab app, with no new account. You can read any city without sharing your location. You only share your city to post nearby, and only when you want.

Would this be useful?

Tell your representative: Protect the 380 remaining Right whales | Environmental Action

85% of Right whales bear the scars of fishing lines that tangled around their bodies at some point in their lives. With only 380 remaining, it's clear they need more protection or else risk extinction.

HR 9436 would delay the necessary regulations Right whales need to thrive in coastal waters without deadly entanglements.

Friends of Olmsted-Beil House Host ON Partners | Olmsted Network

"FOBH Advisory Board member and historian Giuseppe Settinieri began the day by leading the group on a tour of the property. The group was captivated by the extraordinary history of the c.1690 farmhouse and the surrounding grounds, including magnificent trees planted by Frederick Law Olmsted ... Tina Kaasmann-Dunn and Felicity Beil shared fascinating stories of growing up on the property."

boy, have I got a treat for Mastodon: an expert in historic Middle Eastern music has made a dramatic performance of Complaint to Ea-Nasir

Her V.E.T did all she could but our beloved #BossBun slipped away during recovery after a successful procedure. She must have had an important meeting with some old friends. 💜🌈

I don't know what we'll do without her guiding paw.

Please give your companions an extra treat in her honor 💜
