So it's likely I'm headed to the #AGU meeting in December, do I have any fediverse mutuals or acquaintances who are also attending?
It's my first time going, it's a big meeting, and seems overwhelming. Plus it's over Hannukah, so I'm probably only going to attend Monday/Tuesday for the sessions I'm involved with.
You know what stinks... going out of your way to buy a product directly from the manufacturer and paying 25% ($30) more for the product over what it would cost to buy from Amazon, only to have it show up in an Amazon package.
I get that letting Amazon handle logistics for your business might seem wise, but I'm pretty disappointed as a customer.
(edit: deleted following post with link, job announcement closed)
I've been on the fence about posting here with an announcement for several software developer openings in my office, as I work for the US Federal Govt. Obviously there's a lot of good reason not to come work for us right now... but I also know some folks are looking for work, and this might be better?
I still feel like the work is important, my office has have a generally good culture & team (the immediate members of which aren't thrilled about LLMs) -- and I'd like to recruit more good team members.
One of the positions under my boss, mostly java desktop applications, some cloud and server-side stuff as well, in other languages. All is on software water resources infrastructure, climate+earth science adjacent. (DM for more)
(PS, I'm not going to argue about ethics of working for the fed govt right now, I'm well aware of uspol)
Dipper!
Saw some cute babies too
another fish, not sure if this is also a kokanee not as ready for spawning, or some other kind of trout
Drove down to #WallowaLake State Park (#Oregon) to watch the #kokanee swimming upstream from the lake to spawn. #salmon
I hear we're supposed to be getting on board with this SI thing now.
My fellow Americans, what a perfect opportunity to finally adopt the metric system.
(I am so lost, but nothing in this timeline makes sense, please forgive my snark)
I generally don't find (most) contesting to be an exciting part of the hobby, but for American hams, if you're also of that opinion, check out your state's QSO party.
It's once a year, a lot of fun and low pressure - not as rapid-fire or overwhelming as Field Day, and the exchange is pretty standard - a signal report and some abreviation for your county. I always find it to be a good opportunity to practice making QSOs and operating in general.
Maybe it's just the Washington one, but when I hear others they seem to be having a good time too.

Thinking about hard forking a fediverse client so I can label the button "toot toot" with a steam engine emoji.
It'll make every post twice, of course.
Preparations for the Salmon Run (WA State QSO Party) are begining!
Got some non-radio related house tasks to finish first, but I made a moment to hoist the fish up the mast.
I'll be on the air around noon, US/Pacific time.
I'm sure some long since past old-timer at the ITU regretted their definition of "medium frequency" given the increasingly absurd adjectives they had to come up with.
This might be the most "DC to daylight" thing in my shack now, given the nominal range is 10 Hz to 26.5 GHz.
Well it arrived and seems to be in working order, at least as well as I can tell with my nanovna in single-frequency mode.
Doesn't seem happy with a higher resolution setting, but I don't know that this is an ideal test setup either.
(with apologies to John Prine, whose lyrics are perpetually relevant)
Well, I came here to eat a lot of peaches and blow up my TV, and I'm all outta peaches.
Well, I got fed up with the static site generator used to make my blog, so I guess I'm finally half-assing my own, like one does.
🤔 *hmm, don't have to be embarrassed by a password manager if you don't have one* 😅
(not serious advice, don't @ me)
no, just no.
There are some cheaper items that show up when I look for "3.5mm SMA adapter", but somehow I don't think these are good to 26.5 GHz.
Not sure what anyone is going to use this for. 🤷♂️
