Hey SF bay area furries/therians, is anyone looking for a housemate? We just got a job and need to sort out a place to stay; apartments are still too expensive but we could probably manage a "room for rent" type of deal. But I'd rather be with another therian or furry than some human off Craigslist.

(We do kinda need our own room we can go hide out in. I don't want to have nowhere to escape to. But yeah, we don't stink up places (we don't smoke or anything) and we're not particularly loud (aside from the occasional musical instrumenting).)

We're in the SF bay area right now, and don't have a car (or a license), so we kinda rely on having a functional transit system. We do have a CA learners' permit and are on food stamps and stuff so staying in California would be helpful for keeping those.

(We don't have a job yet, and are trying to get one but every time something starts to look promising we just get ghosted. There's a very real possibility we won't have something by the time we get kicked out.)

Can anyone help us out?

Hey #webdev critters, ideally blind/screenreader-using ones: Is there a way to detect when a screenreader is in use or we otherwise need to not mess with the text, from Javascript?

My website has a fancy "write the text a character at a time" effect on load, and I already have it not run if prefers-reduced-motion is on, but I bet it'd be absolute hell on screenreaders as it re-adds each letter. (Not running JS at all also disables the effect, as does using the non-terminalesque CSS theme but the link to do that is part of the page so that's not super helpful.)

I'm still kind of in awe at how _not shitty_ craigslist is.

Non-superpadded styling. No gross slimy site design. No dark pattern shit. No random A/B testing shit. NO THIRD PARTY DOMAINS. AT ALL.

And yet they, presumably, make money. More things should be like craigslist!

for context, our mates @Rethala and their crew are getting kicked out by the abusive asshole who's owned the place they've lived in for the last several years, just because she feels like it

they're in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming and have a car, at least, but also three dogs (two full-on service dogs and one ESA) and three cats (one's an ESA too) and nowhere to land. They've got a job there but hotels are expensive, more than they make. It MIGHT be feasible to cram everyone into the car but it'd be extremely tight bordering on impossible, but if you know a place they can crash, they might be able to make it work. Or if you can help them afford moving/hotel costs.

Our mates @Rethala and their mate and mate's brother are about to be homeless (getting kicked out of the house by the asshole who owns it because she feels like it)

but they've got three dogs (two are certified service animals, third is an ESA) and three cats (one is an ESA and would be a full service animal if the US allowed that) which makes finding a place to crash in their middle-of-nowhere small town, uh, difficult

it's apparently *straight up illegal* to be homeless there, which does not help anything (plus it gets unsurvivably cold in the winter)

they're looking at a hotel but they'd have to give up the third dog for that and he's wonderful

They do have a car, though, so moving might be a possibility. Does anyone have ideas?
