One tiny WWDC wishlist item: SwiftUI apis that have an optional bundle: parameter should default to #bundle instead of .main

Looking through some paperwork, and it looks like at my last doctor visit they measured me at 5’ 11.5”. Yay for under 6’? I was 6’2” at my first endo appointment back in 2021.

Only here for less than a day so I did a quick speed-run around midtown last night trying to see what I can. I wish I had a couple of weeks free to sight-see instead of a couple hours.

My biggest problem with the concept of LLMs, even if they weren’t a giant plagiarism laundering machine and disaster for the environment, is that they introduce so much unpredictability into computing. I became a professional computer toucher because they do exactly what you tell them to. Not always what you wanted, but exactly what you asked for.

LLMs turn that upside down. They turn a very autistic do-what-you-say, say-what-you-mean commmunication style with the machine into a neurotypical conversation talking around the issue, but never directly addressing the substance of problem.

In any conversation I have with a person, I’m modeling their understanding of the topic at hand, trying to tailor my communication style to their needs. The same applies to programming languages and frameworks. If you work with a language the way its author intended it goes a lot easier.

But LLMs don’t have an understanding of the conversation. There is no intent. It’s just a mostly-likely-next-word generator on steroids. You’re trying to give directions to a lossily compressed copy of the entire works of human writing. There is no mind to model, and no predictability to the output.

If I wanted to spend my time communicating in a superficial, neurotypical style my autistic ass certainly wouldn’t have gone into computering. LLMs are the final act of the finance bros and capitalists wrestling modern technology away from the technically literate proletariat who built it.

I’ve been to the Giordano’s by the Willis tower once, last year around this time on the way home from DeepDishSwift. Today the hostess sat me at the same booth, and the bartender/server remembered me and what I ordered. Crazy.

Need some kind of trans hand signal or gesture that doesn’t tip off the cis. The train just picked up someone in Centrailia whom I’m pretty sure is an early transitioner, but they are with some people who keep using he/him in reference to them. I just want to be like “I see you and support you, even if you aren’t out to your friends(?)”

Today marks 5 years on hrt. The first 2 years go by in just 3 seconds of this video because I didn’t save many pictures before 2023. The rest of the video absolutely shatters the idea that you’re done seeing changes after 2 years though.

Unrelated, but the Mach-e gets terrible efficiency numbers in cold weather. I got ~1.3mi/kWh on the way over here. I usually get over 3 mi/kWh in the summer.

I discovered the gas station just north of Cape with a row of chargers has a Quiznos inside. This may become my new reward dinner when I have to come over here for my bi-weekly electrolysis sessions. I haven’t seen a Quiznos in forever.

There should be a “how to live with a heat pump + minisplits” class for people who have been previously spoiled by central heating. It’s been 4 years and I’m still discovering basic shit that would have made life a lot more comfortable if I had learned it when we first moved in.
