You might call it "hope porn." Examples: The New Republic's podcast with daily episodes about how Trump is crashing out and in trouble; YouTube videos about how the AI bubble will pop any day and OpenAI is in trouble.

For a while I listened to/watched these and was like "oh good! Consequences are finally coming." But eventually I realized that, no, consequences are still not coming for the rich and powerful. But you can get a lot of engagement if you tantalize people with hope that they can enjoy for a little while.

Asked ChatGPT about restrictions on what I can bring into a given arena, and it gave me ads for THREE HUNDRED PLUS DOLLAR fanny packs. I clicked in to see the justification for this ridiculousness. It's ads to custom print FIFTY fanny packs.

Saw an ad for Meta’s Muse for the first time. It says “it’s not just another chatbot. It’s your personal AI agent.”

Like “they’re the same picture.”

To everyone who wants to keep calling the company #Facebook to keep them in their place, remember that "#Meta" keys off of a project that is now a giant embarassment, so maybe it's time for us to use the name that reminds them of that.

But… the point of the terms "trailing" and "leading" is that they reverse in RTL languages. But that doesn't apply here, right? It's always the right side that corresponds to the phone closed. Unless the phone will be used upside-down for RTL languages.
