Hierarchical File Corn Syrup

Last night I was feeling discouraged about the fact that (as I've been posting frequently) #Ubuntu is not fixing a critical security vulnerability in a timely manner. I decided I need to stop using my personal Linux laptop for now, and use my personal Mac instead.

In general I want to move off of Mac to Linux. But I'm not yet ready to become a Linux expert to switch to a challenging-to-maintain distro. Maybe someday.

I realized that in order to optimally focus on digital privacy and security, I'm not always going to live on an ivory tower. Yes, I want to get off Mac. But it's okay if I need to be on it sometimes while my Linux distro is struggling, at least until if and when I switch to another someday. It's not a compromise of my principles; it's pragmatism.

Voice-to-text turned "Bugsnag" into "bug nag", and, honestly, yes.

#ubuntu be like

Can we please give a HUGE shout out to Stacey Abrams? She worked and fought and organized and created the foundation for the important win by Keisha Lance Bottoms to become the first female and first Black governor in Georgia's history, as well as the first Black female governor in the US.

"Ubuntu users say Canonical “asleep at the wheel” over critical Linux kernel bug"

"Canonical is fixing a critical Linux kernel flaw in Ubuntu, weeks after Debian and other distros did – and users aren’t happy about the wait."

This is not "kindness" or "forgiveness." This is a national leader refusing to uphold the law or the constitution, and telling Americans to suck it up and deal. That should sound very familiar.

In an old book, I just read the term “ball game“ to refer to sports. That’s prejudiced against hockey.

Alright I can resubscribe to TNR’s podcast now that there will be more to talk about other than promising that Trump is doing badly.

First Black and first female governor of Georgia, and the first Black woman to serve as governor of a U.S. state, let’s gooooo 🎉

Imagine if they just remade Sonic 06 with controls that are actually good. It would sell like hotcakes! It would be an awesome game.

About a cartoon hedgehog in love with a human princess.

Hotcakes, I tell you!

US folks, this is your permission to go to bed early/on time tonight if you need to.

Alright finally some progress from #Ubuntu

Congrats to Domino's on being the first restaurant I shop at to add #iPhoneDuo support to their app.

October 2026 was Cybersecurity HYPERawareness Month

Got my first #Elixirlang Phoenix app deployed! Got an existing Rails app's DB migrated to it. Not quite ready to share out as I either need to set up an auth email service or disable email auth.

It's mostly personal software anyway--although like the authors of most personal software, I'm surprised more people don't share that use case 😆

@CodingItWrong With every passing day I regret having to use the phrase "meat thermometer attack surface"

Reached the point where I need a tracking system for security patches for my family devices. Welcome to 2026.
