Someone Rebuilt Free, Open-Source Versions of Photoshop, Premiere, and Lightroom Using AI | PetaPixel https://petapixel.com/2026/10/07/someone-rebuilt-free-open-source-versions-of-photoshop-premiere-and-lightroom-using-ai/

I turned these on in my Obsidian vault, and they’re delightful.

They make you smile, which is always a good thing these days. https://birchtree.me/blog/hand-drawn-emoji-for-chrome-and-obsidian/

A big thank you to @matt_birchler for making the Obsidian plugin.

I recently got back on the Libby app and forgot how good it is. I found new photography magazines to subscribe to and books to queue. If you haven’t used Libby or it’s been years, get your library card out, it's time to check it out again.

Good article, sad, but wise words are spoken.

“I’m not stealing from anybody or doing anything without their consent. The landscape is there for all of us to fall in love with and indulge in.”

McCullin fears for the sanctity of journalism today. “I’m going to say: photojournalism is dead. Look at your newspapers. What do you see? Celebrities. Fashion. Film stars. They’re not interested in war.” Meanwhile, we’ve become desensitized to violence.

Death

Saguaro cacti are built for heat, but even they have limits. A saguaro breathes at night: after dark, it opens its pores to take in carbon dioxide, when the cooler air costs it the least water. In Phoenix’s record…

“Long before the iPhone, another inventive device allowed everyone to instantly chronicle their lives — the Polaroid camera. The product, and the company’s unique culture, would launch not only instant photography mania but also become the model for today’s Silicon Valley tech culture. Mr. Polaroid tells the little-known story of the man behind the camera, Edwin Land.”

“One wide-ranging study found that Canada’s forests, thanks in large part to wildfires, officially became a net source of carbon emissions rather than a carbon sink around 2021. (Canada’s heavily logged “managed” forests passed a similar tipping point all the way back in 2001.) This means that, in one of the largest and most forested nations on earth, trees are now releasing more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than they absorb.”
