Played two 7 player games of Feed the Kraken today—a hidden role pirates vs sailors vs cult leader (+ eventual cultists) game. It was highly entertaining, and the first game was won by the cult after one of the newly recruited cultists managed to wrest the captaincy and successfully sacrificed the cult leader to the Kraken. 😂 🐙 💀

Decided to drop-in to Subway takeaway for lunch. They now have McDonald’s style ordering booths with no search functionality but high level categories for sandwiches so you get to poke around for a bit guessing where your desired order is hiding. Also, by extension, a whole bunch of people are sitting around waiting for their orders to complete. Definitely a massive waste of store space, an awful ordering experience, and I will probably never go back here.

There isn’t a single fucking second of user interaction with my iPad on iOS26 that is better, in any way, than the previous OS. Even the multitasking, despite being able to do windows now, is worse than it was before with the 2 app split screen and side swipe overlay. Just absolutely mindbogglingly fucking stupid how much worse it is now.

Every once in a while the only iDevice I have with Liquid Ass OS installed does some Liquid Ass stuff, like context menus bubbling into view, or 15 layers of UI text haze-blended into itself, meaning I can’t find the search field, and I’m once again reminded that the biggest fanciest UI definingest software/hardware company couldn’t even do the most basic fucking redesign without absolutely cock-ballsing it up in obvious ways they had to literally ignore for 6 months straight in order to release it.

After the “power” plug in my car broke, ending my ability to play Bluetooth to my radio via my phone, I rediscovered what remains of my CD collection (I only kept maybe 5-10% after a big CD and DVD cleanup in December of 2012) and have started buying some of my favourite new albums as a token effort to divest from streaming services (note I stream my local mp3s with PlexAmp and buy digital stuff off BandCamp on the regular)

Well, after 6 months of training involving too much running I’m starting the ‘glass half full’ 5(3!?)km trail run. First and last time I will run a distance greater than my age, I suspect. Nearly typed ‘fun run’ but didn’t want to upset the fact checking algorithm.

I’ll try to post slow collapse and/or progress photos as the day unfolds. If I can do it in 7hrs I’ll be impressed, especially because all my calculations say I should hit net-0 calories about 5hrs in.

Hm so looks like Squid Game s2, unlike s1 (which was a full story) is only half a story. Hopefully s3 (eye roll) is the other half of the story and has an ending.

Check it out, I did a kayaking camping trip this weekend and I didn’t die. The “kayaks” are inflatable SUPs with kayak seats and we strapped all our camping kit front and back for the inaugural (and 1 night only) Noosa Everglades trip.

The Christmas episode s2 is probably the best one of the first two seasons. One season left to go.

I’ve been watching Upstart Crow (my old medieval and renaissance studies degree getting a minor refresher) and it’s not very good but it is cute and occasionally has some funny episodes. After this I’ll be watching the new The Decameron though 🙌

To anyone who thinks I can’t grow and learn: I’m finally ready to rewatch ‘Sunshine’ after I was so bitterly disappointed by the last third (while loving the first 2/3) when I first watched it in probably 2011. 😬

Since I busted my ankle mildly while “attempting to walk in a straight line while distracted”, my task today is sitting on the couch watching TV instead of training for my hike in 4 weeks *coughs*. ‘Better Call Saul’ series finale first though.

I’m a nerd who plays boardgames and the only actual boardgame is Twilight Imperium 4 😉 all other boardgames turned out to be just like… a sorbet palate cleanser between rounds of The Stupid Game?

Anyway as part of this stupid game I’ve been mucking around in the homebrew community for a few years, and now a bunch of people are off translating some custom versions of cards I threw together into German and Spanish and… it’s actually really cool seeing everyone get so engaged with it. It’s a great example of the kind of stuff that naturally forms in a group of people with no financial incentive or remuneration. Yay humans!
