The vicious media furore around former professor Jason Arday, the first Black professor at Cambridge, erupted after another academic, the self-defined "race realist" Nathan Cofnas, was sacked from his Cambridge role in 2024. He told the press he found some instances of plagiarism in Arday's work.

Cofnas's job had been terminated amid a backlash to his view that under a "true" meritocracy, Black people would "disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment".

Bored of the lazy trope about how "Mother Nature" will survive this current mass extinction. Between 1970 and 2014 alone, there was an average 60% decline in mammal, bird, fish, reptile and amphibian populations, and there have been comparable declines in invertebrate populations as well. The possibly permanent end of all sentient life, let alone life capable of contemplating its own existence, would be a tragedy beyond imagining. If by "Mother Nature" you mean microbes...perhaps.

Anyway, as a break from my usual topics, a pal gave me several huge bags of porridge oats they didn't want, so I started having porridge every morning to save money. Since COVID, I've been struggling with mood regulation - common for those with chronic symptoms. But this completely resolved itself within a few days of eating porridge. Coincidence?

Nope. Turns out, it keeps blood sugar steady through the day, feeds a healthy gut biome, and increases serotonin, the "happy hormone".

Iran spent decades building its "Mosaic" defence system: a matrix of parallel, overlapping organisations rather than a single, traditional chain of command. This decentralised system was designed specifically to thwart an American "shock and awe" attack.

I'm not supporting the Iranian regime when I say that the US cannot degrade this system faster than Iran can rebuild. This is Vietnam on steroids: defeat is inevitable, and the longer the Trump regime postpones it the more humiliating it'll be.
