Holy shit, you don't have manual gears on cars in America, do you? That's insane. Never mind Waymos, you couldn't fully control your cars in the first place, could you?
They just go along in straight lines. 🤯

UK Police have just arrested the whole collective outside UAV Tactical Systems (Elbit Systems subsidiary) in Leicester under the Terrorism Act, including supporters who were just there chanting or witnessing and not taking action.
15 Lift The Ban signholders were also arrested for allegedly supporting Palestine Action.
But sure, try and talk to us about the precise definition of "Zionism", 'cos I'm sure you'll get a receptive response.
We wouldn't dream of Inigo Montoya-ing your arse.
They got bail 'cos there was no terror plot. They just wanted free fuel.
"The five British men, aged between 23 and 25...were arrested outside RAF Fairford...
Two separate military sources told Wiltshire 999s that they were thieves syphoning fuel, with barrels to store the stolen liquids...in three vans.
Both said that it was unlikely to be confirmed officially...one describing the situation as “embarrassing”. The vans were reportedly found close to a diesel supply."

No point making spy movies anymore when we can just follow the news.
"FBI Director Kash Patel was seen partying alongside Ali Abdelaziz, a prominent mixed martial arts manager and former FBI informant who was dropped by the agency in 2008 after he was suspected of being a [Russian] double agent."
The article quotes journalist Michael D. Weiss: "Looks like Ka$h (far right) has forgiven and forgotten. These MAGA weddings are Mos Eisley cantinas for counterintelligence."
Though we didn't hear about it until Ronan Farrow published an investigative piece on him in the New Yorker earlier this year, the late Aaron Swartz was already warning associates about Sam Altman at least 13 years ago.
"You need to understand that Sam can never be trusted," Swartz told one confidant. "He is a sociopath. He would do anything."

“The Anthropic scientists [..] said that their A.I. had taken “the first steps of a biological discovery on its own.””
[Mario Rodríguez Mestre, a computational biologist] “disputed that claim. “They are the same systems we have been studying for years,” he said. And they are the same enzymes, he said, that he had described to Anthropic’s A.I.”

AI companies stealing people’s work and claiming that their AI is making new discoveries. How long before humanity stands up to these companies?
I'm a BDS rep for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), so thought I'd share this important doc with the fediverse. It's a database of businesses involved in activities detailed in paragraph 96 of the report of the independent international fact-finding mission to investigate the impact of Israeli settlements on the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of Palestinians in the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem.
Where to begin?
"The nutty professor dubbed the “father” of effective altruism (EA), the theory beloved by AI doomers who want the power to police the technology, expressed support for bestiality and said the life of a newborn baby is worth less than a chimp’s or a hog’s.
Peter Singer is [a]...bioethicist who argues that killing disabled infants is not morally wrong, that sex with animals is preferable to raising them for food and that even necrophilia can be moral."
I suspect I've pretty much broken everyone who's tried to change me...without any intention to do so, of course. Life's been this tedious succession of partners who've hoped they could save me from the fate I'd already decided for myself, and won't ever waver from. "2.4 children" (look it up if you're not from the UK) and a red-brick suburban prison ain't for me.
Oh we're meeting that same ghoulish cunt who said Afghanistan should be reduced to dust just 'cos he's your friend's friend? Miss me.
In the conjuring arts, there are elusive sleight-of-hand moves known within the fraternity as "knacky", so called because grasping the mechanics isn't enough to explain how to perform them: that part is almost real magic, a "feel" no-one can teach. Jazz in motion.
It occurs to me something similar happens with writing: no digital software will ever replicate the creative flair and inspiration behind the most beguiling prose. As Joan Didion once put it, "style is an instrument I play by ear."
I miss the days when I didn't have to constantly verify my humanity to a machine conceived by someone whose own humanity is questionable. You end up trying to figure out, what's the optimal amount of smart this robot will tolerate? 'Cos that square definitely has some bike in it, but are there enough pixels to qualify? Is that weird bit sticking out of the traffic light part of the structure? Philosophical questions which I doubt the designers of this Captcha considered.
It's all so Kafkaesque.
When you want to correct a spelling error in a viral post on the fedi, but that would send a notification to nearly 500 people.
So you leave it, and decide never to read that post again.
Yikes, haven't checked this in a while (I'm using Tusky, it doesn't show it unless you click on it).
Welcome, bewildering number of new followers! All I can say is that you're in for a wild ride of political commentary, random shitposting, mundane life-based observations, too many boosts, and just generally an idiosyncratic mix of whatever-the-fuck happens to be on this hyperactive mind in the moment.
Occasionally, I even post something that matches the bio.
Apropos of nothing...
In September 1964, The Beatles were told their upcoming concert at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida, would be racially segregated. Far from bowing to pressure from promoters, John Lennon famously declared the band would "sooner lose our appearance money" than play to segregated audiences.
The promoters were forced to back down, and integrated the stadium for the concert. Brain Epstein later added an anti-segregation clause to all of the band's US concert contracts.
Last week in Derby, England. The scruffy fella in the Miles Davis t-shirt, flat cap and Vans, is me. The action was at the players' entrance to the stadium to urge Irish players on the Derby team to not play for Ireland against Israel. Somehow, the fash caught wind of the action and decided to disrupt it and try to prevent it happening. But then police arrived and made them stand on the other side of the road.
Since we weren't causing much trouble, the cops left us alone.
Free Palestine. ✊🏼
If you sit down and really try to wrap your head around how far a light day is, you'll quickly find it's such a mind-boggling distance that it defies your imagination.
Well, that's how far away Voyager 1 is from Earth, having passed that milestone earlier today after nearly half a century in space! And it's still partially operational, too. 🤯
Chatbots are reliant on hundreds of human workers in the Global South being paid a pittance to constantly vet their outputs to maintain current model performance, and the "AI" companies are resorting to digitising and shredding millions of old books to prevent looming model collapse, 'cos hoovering up the internet doesn't work anymore now it's mostly slop.
You're out of your goddamn mind if you think this tech is getting any better, let alone achieving super-intelligence. It's a colossal scam.
Imagine if your only source of self-worth was tied up in flags, conformity and ethnonationalism. That's it, that's all you've got. Nothing original, nothing rebellious, creative, new or against the grain. Just boring, inward-looking tribalistic loyality coupled with hostility against anyone who doesn't match what you think all the proper, ordinary people should be like. Because your mind is too small and ignorant to imagine anything else. Imagine that's you, forever.
No wonder they're so angry.
Dear Americans. A legit British English word which entered English from French in the 15th century, is "trumpery".
Meaning something that looks flashy or attractive but is actually cheap, fake or without value. Applied to speech it's almost synonymous with the USian "trash talk".
Also, long before Donnie came along, in British slang to trump meant to fart.
I would love for y'all to co-opt these words because there is plausible deniability: they're already in the dictionaries!
You're welcome.
Seriously, after Debian, it's the Electronic Frontier Foundation now? Does Big Tech have a bunch of people's kids locked up in their basement or something?
