Every octet is assigned a common word:

e.g.

Thus, every website can be remembered using four words.

Some examples:

Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 => evil evil evil evil

Self-assigned windows thing: 169.254.169.1 => no network no miku

Local IP: 192.168.0.10 => local comfy eepy blobcat

I mean: Imagine you had little plots of land floating in space, where you could grow vegetables (e.g. potatoes).

Now, all you need for cooking is heat.
So why not drop that tater to earth and letting gravity and the atmosphere do the rest?

The part of vibe coding that should weird the experienced programmer out is this:
Where is the quality control? How do we assure that it does what we want?

Likely also: The difference between a program that barely works and one that works are a number of "expert decisions".

I would argue that the third thing doesn't actually belong, or more that it is forced upon the programmer by the current sad state of affairs regarding all things code.

Typical "expert decisions":

• Variable types
• linked list or array?
• generally: data structures

And more. These decisions have little to do with what we as programmers want to achieve: To solve a problem with code.

Of course we can't ask a random person vibe coding their first thing to make those decisions.

And I think an expert programmer also shouldn't be forced (or even incentivized) to make them.

An example:
A modern approach to sorting is calling sort(), a function that sorts.

Controversial opinion: Vibe coding is bad, but so are our other forms of coding

Vibe coding is the latest iteration in the "telling your computer what you want, no coding skillz needed" saga.

You basically give a statistical model some sentences and it transforms them into a string that can be seen as code.

Both with traditional programming and vibe coding, you-the-programmer are responsible for the result.

Is your manually crafted for loop "better" than the generated counterpart?
Maybe. But by e.g. using an int as data type for our loop variable was likely also more "meh, good enough" than a deliberate decision.

I think we need better ways to talk to computers. To describe what we short-sighted, opinionated, easily distractable people want to achieve.
Something where we don't say "int" when we actually mean "a type for holding large, natural numbers".
