The GOP is a literal Party of Plague: "The United States has now had more measles deaths in the past two years than... in the previous three decades combined."

Quoting Rachael Maddow: "It's almost like putting a quack anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist in charge of the nation's health policy has consequences."

Whelp, this blows every kind of donkey. So if anyone has any leads, PLEASE throw them at Anna. She's been in test her entire career and particularly likes writing test automation. Her reviews have always been good, but a new VP came flouncing in and has been AI EVERYWHERE! at everybody and now there's a bunch of layoffs.

We'd kinda just got feet back underneath us so while the timing for this kind of shit is never good, this one's kind of extra galling. Regardless, here we are.

Tycho of Penny Arcade wrote a very angry post about this yesterday too:

Remember: Republicans never once met an ally they wouldn't betray in a heartbeat. It's only a matter of who's next.

Ask the Marsh Arabs. Ask the Kurds. Ask secular Afghanis. Ask the Kurds _again_.

It never stops.

Can you hear your neighbour's LG TV? Because it can hear you.

If the microphone is "off," you have to be closer - but they can still do it.

It's all demonstrated in the documentary. They do this _on camera_.

So "don't plug it in hur hur" doesn't work. It only cuts out one node of _tens of millions_.

This isn't a problem that can be solved by being smarter than everyone else, because even if you _are_ smarter than everyone else, you're still smarter than _everyone else_, and _they're_ all plugging _their_ sets into the network. That is, after all, most likely _why_ they bought a smart TV. To do exactly that.

Like it or not, this requires _collective_ action.

I'm getting too many "hur hur hur don't plug it into the network" responses that miss the point.

That's fine for your set.

It's not fine for all the other tens of millions of sets around you, _which also listen to you_.

These sets spy on every network they can sense, wifi and LAN, including yours to one degree or another if you live next door. They build profiles and geolocate, even if you never owned one, even if you never shared a network with one.

And if you _did_ share a network with one of these sets, they have IDed every network device you have and started building profiles around them.

This is the big LG television surveillance documentary story GN have been working on for a couple of months, and that they previewed a few days ago.

The complete pervasiveness of spying upon not just you and what you watch but _every person and every device around every set_ is genuinely staggering. And it gets worse if you use their apps, particularly the LG TV "network":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IFVTcM28KA

Having an old set DOES NOT HELP YOU; they've been adding these spying functions in firmware updates.

So DO NOT BUY ANYTHING LG. Certainly not anything "smart."

Looks okay until you look behind the curtain of solar panels xD

(Do not imitate, I do not even endorse my own bullshit here, in fact, I should probably disavow it and yet here we are, hopefully it'll hold up well enough for the experimental purposes I have anyway xD )

Odds of "Stand your ground" getting rolled back hard now that a Black woman has used it successfully in self-defence?

I mean, it seems _pretty fucken likely_ to me.

(Which was also one of the infinite number of reasons I was so desperate to get Harris elected. That hellishly unlawful Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling would've been pared down _so_ hard and _so_ fast once a Black woman was in the presidency - the contortions they'd've gone through to reel it back in would've made heads spin.)

TAKE YOUR BALLOTS TO A DROP BOX THIS NOVEMBER.

Don't use a mailbox. Use a ballot drop box, because the US postal service is _already_ fucking with ballots.

This is not a guess, theory, or extrapolation, this is an _observed fact_. Here's the Thurston County auditor talking about postal service fuckery during the primary, and some of the steps they're taking to get around it:

https://www.thurstoncountywa.gov/news/we-are-still-getting-ballots-should-have-counted-primary

Imagine express mail taking 19 days to deliver to the _next county over_. Literally behaviour they've never seen before. That's they kind of fuckery they're seeing.

Take your ballot to a BALLOT DROP BOX, not a mailbox.

This one's odd enough to share - anyone need a LOT of metal drying racks?

US Diesel prices hit record high of $5.85:

https://text.npr.org/nx-s1-5948016

In Cascadia, it's higher. For Washington State, the average is $6.96. For Oregon, it's $6.47.

Diesel is important as it is the fuel used in cargo hauling and farming, so price hikes in diesel echo through the entire supply chain. Heating oil is also diesel, though because of taxation differences (and the added colouration to track those differences) it is treated as a completely separate product.

Is the "pause" maybe "for the midterms?" Because President Shitstain has floated similar ideas.

Palestinian rights group condemns Israeli minister’s Gaza ‘migration’ remarks

https://aje.news/y0bkmt?update=4916499

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights has condemned remarks by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who said a plan to relocate large numbers of Palestinians out of Gaza “by sea, land and air” was ready and awaiting a green light from the United States.

Katz told a news conference on Wednesday that “there is no real solution for Gaza without this migration”. He said that US President Donald Trump had paused but not shelved the plan and that Israel was prepared to move people out “by every way possible”.

Israel’s Ben-Gvir unveils $20bn plan to relocate Gaza population

https://aje.news/y0bkmt?update=4916459

Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has unveiled a proposal to relocate nearly two million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip over a seven-year period, Israel’s Channel 14 reported on Thursday.

Dubbed ‘Disengagement 710’, the framework sets incremental targets for what Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party describes as “voluntary emigration”. It seeks the departure of 250,000 residents in its first year, 1.1 million within three years and approximately 1.9 million within seven years.
