The Verge and I vastly disagree on the Kaleidescape “experience.”
Example: Despite being a fully downloaded video file on the box…you can’t scrub to find a moment you want to play.
You can see the UI in action in my video: https://youtu.be/xxpGiEZq_ZU?is=kFHBq1rIV-SXS-Vm
@atpfm this is wild. I bought my M4 Mac Studio in April this year for 2450. That exact Mac Studio is 3800 today. That is absurd.
Listening to @atpfm on pricing and wanted to check my own Mac Studio.
Bought 1 year ago, M4 Max 40-Core GPU, 128GB RAM, 8TB storage:
$5,899
Today, that config doesn’t exist, you can only get 64GB RAM with M4 Max. But if you take the price increase of 64 to 128 from the M5 MacBook Pro (+ $1,600) today my Mac Studio would be:
$8,899 and a new Mac Studio won’t ship until October 🫠
I was upgrading from an M1 Max, which I didn’t really *need* but man, in retrospect that was a great decision.
Can't wait for this new release. 🎮

This idea brought to you by the after-show on this week’s episode of @atpfm and @caseyliss’s recent post about Claude Code as a pointer to indie developer (and indie *anything*) loneliness.
@daringfireball Heartfelt and warm. I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about Om in my 25+ years of following tech.
Though, I did have to laugh at the juxtaposition of the line “He made grumps smile" just above a picture of @siracusa smiling 🙃

Apple altered their prices. Pray they don’t alter them any further.
Ireland’s is the world’s first permanent basic income program sending direct, unconditional cash payments to professional artists, and it enjoys overwhelming public support – of 17,000 public survey respondents, 97% supported the program becoming permanent... an independent study of the pilot found that artists didn't just get more work done – basic income reduced their levels of anxiety and alleviated depression, too. https://rgmii.org/blog/thousands-more-artists-join-irelands-basic-income-plan/
Amen! https://weblog.rogueamoeba.com/2026/06/26/free-the-icons/
Squircle Jail is the worst design-related thing Apple has ever done to Mac developers, and probably the worst icon-related thing it has ever done, period. Incredibly developer-hostile.
If squircled icons are actually better, then let that design win in the market. That's how we transitioned from the classic Mac OS icon style to the more photorealistic Mac OS X icon style. Developers adopted it because they wanted to, and because users desired it.
@stroughtonsmith @siracusa Someone's on it!
I am desperately clinging to the idea that price increases on luxury electronics could, in fact, be the most negative way that AI will impact my life from this point forward
Happy thirtieth birthday to TextEdit!
Two Minnesota solar farms swapped the gravel under their panels for native prairie and wildflowers. Five years later the native bees had multiplied twentyfold and were crossing the fence to pollinate the soybeans next door
