I'm looking for work, please boost!

I'm a senior software engineer with 35 years of experience. I've worked across an unusually wide range of domains: mobile game backends, privacy-preserving data platforms, high-throughput COVID testing infrastructure, email and account systems, e-payment processing, job marketplace systems, and bioinformatics. I pick up new domains quickly and have a track record of doing it repeatedly. I understand how to turn business needs into engineering requirements.

I've worked remotely since the 1990s and can operate with minimal supervision. I don't need hand-holding to find the right problem to solve. Several of my most valued projects were self-directed: I identified the need, built the thing, and shipped it.

Some of the technologies I'm familiar with include: Python, Perl, TypeScript/JavaScript, Haskell, Go, C, Java. Postgres, MySQL, SQLite. Flask, SQLAlchemy. AWS (Lambda, S3, RDS, SQS, EC2). Docker, Git. Github and Gitlab.

I've also repeatedly picked up new languages and stacks as needed: Haskell for differential privacy research, TypeScript for a 24/7 AWS Lambda system, Flask for my most recent employer. I've become productive with new systems over and over, and I can do it quickly.

I'm also a published author (Higher-Order Perl, Morgan Kaufmann), longtime blogger, and conference speaker with a reputation for making complex ideas clear.

A loss in court

I am now officially a whistle-blower in the legal sense of the term. More importantly, so are others who report scientific misconduct "without direct financial gain and in good faith". However, that does not entitle me (them) to much protection. That is my summary of the decision taken by the administrative court of Montreuil last week (Tribunal Administratif de Montreuil).

I recently discovered an online game hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Each day there's a set of 10 objects with anywhere from 1 to 10 photos and you're asked to identify the place from which they come & their approximate age on a timeline, with up to 5,000 points each for location & date. Enjoyed doing these, enjoyed the combination of a few coloured elements and the rest of it just shaded in pencil. Mostly done late at night or during the weekends. what if: a software coop, but:

• we have a strong code of ethics (ethical source, no ai, etc)
• open bookkeeping like opencollective
• we solicit sponsorship to pay for our work
• becoming a sponsor grants rights to vote on project ideas, with capacity that reflects coop's engineers' capabilities
• this eventually grows to engineering teams that could handle either/both wider varieties of projects and more parallel work

If you can’t tax billionaires and trillionaire because “its unrealized gains until they cash out,” then stop letting them leverage that wealth for loans, as collateral, or as equity.

If it’s not real enough to tax, it shouldn’t be real enough to leverage.

This is why we say the system is rigged in favor of the super wealthy. Abolish billionaires, tax them out of existence, protect working people.

Yes, we have gladiatorial combat staged for the ruler's birthday, plans for a triumphal arch, and oaths of fealty. But the Romans had better roads, principled senators, and respect for science.

I'm useless at painting and drawing, but sometimes I can create a photograph that looks a bit like a painting. This Australian scene reminds me of some of the C19th landscape works I've encountered.
