The convergence is no coincidence. These “arguments” are the same self-serving, disingenuous twaddle, coming from the same place: hacks who serve capital. It's time we recognised them for what they are. Politics is downstream from profit.

The arguments trotted out against leaving fossil fuels in the ground are strikingly similar to the arguments trotted out against ending the slave trade, 230 years ago.

@privateeyenews.bsky.social this week reveals the shocking ignorance of two BBC Countryfile presenters - one of whom, Adam Henson, is a livestock farmer - about the treatment of farm animals. I see such lapses as *professional ignorance*: there are things that are safer not to know.

I know he has a lot on, but in the midst of a ferocious drought, fires, heat events and severe threats to food production, it would be quite edifying to hear Andy Burnham mention climate breakdown.

The bizarre and disturbing thing is that Joshua Bonehill-Paine is one of the few figures on the right to be loudly and clearly called out for anti-semitism. Is that because it doesn't happen much on the right? You have to be kidding. So why the double standards?

Living on this planet, especially as a member of a privileged society, our lives are intimately bound with the lives of others, including those who live thousands of miles away. We cannot excuse ourselves from the responsibilities we owe to each other.

As an aside, if any other professionals were as incompetent as certain journalists, they'd be sacked and disbarred. But in the rightwing press, gross incompetence appears to be a qualification. After all, without its bullshitters for hire, how else would capital deny, deflect and distract?
