chat.micr0.dev is back!! its a smol tech community i started about a year ago that was active for a bit and then kinda fell off. bringing it back as the main place other than fedi to talk about my projects and just hang out

web client: https://chat.micr0.dev (no install, has a PWA that works on phone, and acts as a bouncer too, aka it stays connected when you close the tab so you dont miss anything)

or connect directly to irc.micr0.dev: 6667, or 6697 for tls (BYO bouncer so you can see msgs people send when youre not there!!)

i also set up push notifs so its now the best way to reach me along with email lol

also you can auth your nick with your ssh key instead of a password, bc i wrote a bot for that like a year ago and i like it more this way :3

A year ago I made Wellness Ping because someone I care about went silent and it took too long for anyone to notice.

v2.0 is now out.

It now works entirely over Signal, usernames or phone numbers, both for your check-ins and for your emergency contacts. Email isn't safe for everyone to use, but it's still there.

Three new security modules, all optional, stack as many as you want: PIN, authenticator 2FA, and passkeys.

The PIN has a duress option. Enter that one instead and your contacts get alerted immediately, while your screen says everything went fine. (really proud of this one. tweaked to the point of obsession so that response time for a duress PIN matches a normal one. nothing on your screen or in the timing gives it away.)

Also added vacation pause and custom alert messages, both of which people asked for.

v2.0 got a full security review before release. The check-in path is much harder to spoof now. Details in the release PR.

oh and btw, the person who went missing, for whom I made this originally, turned out to be okay. It took a lot of time and a lot of effort to find them, but I did actually find them. I thought you might want to know that.

Patched the bug where Signal usernames were limited to 2 discriminators, added an extra step in signup to hopefully make less ratelimit issues.

Since there is still a big signup wave know service can be patchy, but for those who have already signed up signal rate limits don't affect you so everything works! Once you've signed up.

Did the update on my pc right after I woke up, and now typing this as I walk to uni, will try to get to any other issues after uni

for everyone who missed the first post: it's a math tutor that lives entirely on your phone. fully offline, with no account and no api, where nothing gets sent anywhere. now built from source and signed by f-droid!! so you don't even have to even trust me

type out a problem, or snap a photo of it, and it walks you through solving it step by step. it's mainly a tutor, not an answer machine, the whole point is you still do the thinking, just with something to compare against with a proper solution at 2am

it runs a small reasoning model fully on-device (~2.1GB) and honestly it's still kinda wild to me how capable these things are on a phone already. you can also bring your own model file if you'd rather use a different one

(also icon on the listing is coming in the next update, f-droid pulls it from a fresh release so it's a few days behind. the app itself has one I promise lol)

Not everyone has someone to ask when they're stuck on their homework at 2am. I wanted to fix that, a math tutor that lives on your phone, works fully offline, and doesn't send your kid's schoolwork to anyone.

So I made LocalMathy! (My first mobile app, Android, iOS coming soon)

You get step-by-step help working through a typed out math problem. Or snap a photo of it if typing it out is annoying.

Its a small reasoning model that runs entirely on-device (about 2.1GB) because privacy shouldn't depend on trusting an API or AI company.. You can also bring your own model file instead of downloading mine!

(also, a model small enough to fit on my phone aced my entire uni math homework set while I was at the store buying brake pads. I don't think people know what's possible on-device yet. Because i also didn't know and was shocked)

the account i use for project costs (altbot, wellness-ping, fuzzies.wtf, colo, vps, email) is running low again.

i keep that money separate from my personal money on purpose, so running these free services doesn't quietly come out of my own pocket like it used to. it's at the point where i'd rather say something than just absorb it.

decided to make this a public response about why i use github still and not codeberg

i have used them in the past but i had moderation issues :( my and some other people's repos were getting flooded with bots, and there was no way to even block them? in the end the only way was to email/mention codeberg themselves as that was their only way to report stuff. and that really didnt really help when i was getting litterally over 500 emails a day from that spam. so i prolly wont go back to them for a while. unless i know for a fact those issues are fixed. I will prolly move to a selfhosted option as some point, but once again that doesnt solve the donation issues, and one of the few things github does do well is github sponsors.
