(note to myself: remember that my USB sound card does not pass the microphone line through and buy another or a proper setup)

The 29th #XMPP summit has come to and end.

It was not the same as the physical summits in Brussels, but overall it went great for a first fully online event, and allowed equal participation from people who cannot or do not want to come to Europe once a year.

Thanks a lot to the organizers (and @daniel in particular) and other participants for making it happen.

Happy to announce the release of slixmpp, the python XMPP library in its 1.17.0 version.

It has a few improvements alongside an important bugfix for components, as well as many other changes.

Read the full changelog at https://blog.mathieui.net/slixmpp-1-17.html

Let unstated, but the state of CPython does not bring joy, but for now rewriting everything in Zig is not in the plans.

Doing a cursory lookup on the dependencies of poezio and slixmpp to look for slop:
we kept the dependency tree minimal, so there isn’t much to look into, aiodns had *one* claude code commit, which adds a SPDX licence to the pyproject, and the c-ares maintainer has started slopping in the last week, but only around CI so far.
On the optional side, we have python-cryptography which is very much using the anthropic LLM (4th co-author over the last months), I might have to roll an AES-GCM implementation to get rid of it.

The rest of our dependencies seem clean, for now.

Use #Signal, they said, you won’t have the issues people encounter with #XMPP E2EE they said.

Released yesterday, but only got to publish the blogpost and push to pypi today: happy to announce the version 1.16 of slixmpp, the #python #xmpp library.

This release brings two new XEPs into the fold, and has quite a few internal changes as well.

(gonna be a problem for #xmpp as well)

Happy to announce the 0.18 release of Poezio, a terminal XMPP messaging client.

This new release brings better compatibility with python 3.15, Message Retraction support, a new way of showing or hiding groupchat presences, and a lot of typing!

A more detailed changelog is available on my blog:

I have released version 1.15 of slixmpp, the python XMPP library.

Besides the continuation of @nicoco ’s quest to add every XEP under the sun, the most notable change is that building the rust module is now optional (i.e. in the absence of sufficient tools, slixmpp will happily be installed using the pure-python fallback for the JID module, which is kind of important for Mac OS or Winslop platforms).

I’m happy to announce the release 0.17 of the poezio terminal #XMPP client!

This features adds support for XEP-0444: Message reactions.

You can read more about it on my blog: https://blog.mathieui.net/poezio-0-17.html

Fun fact: poezio was one of the very first clients with support for message reactions, during the XMPP sprint where they were initially fleshed out, but the PoC branch got lost in a forge move 🤐

Just fresh out of the oven, release 0.16.1 of the poezio TUI XMPP client!

Mostly fixes and internal stuff, but also adds the ability to see redacted/moderated messages if you wish so – particularly useful if you are the one moderating –.

@debacle your packaging situation should improve with that!

I released yesterday version 0.16 of Poezio, a terminal XMPP client, here is the blog post with a release announcement: https://blog.mathieui.net/poezio-0-16.html

Some nice bugfixes (thanks @ge0rg for testing), and finally handling of message moderation & retraction.

Note: the fact that we very often share version numbers with @profanity is a pure coincidence!
