Watching the tech community and OSS world tear itself apart over AI usage in coding is ... really getting me down these days.
=[
There are so many, very real challenges we have to overcome, both to keep software sustainable and high-quality, and to actually realize any of the hoped-for productivity gains. We need to talk and discuss these, **_critically_**, and in a hype free environment. But it is _so hard_ to do that right now, pincered between useless hype nonsense and absolute condemnation of anyone and everyone who touches these things.
I'm going to keep trying to do so. =/ I hope others stick with me.
And just to be clear, I am 100% fine with any and everyone who just prefers to _not_ use an LLM or AI when coding. Either some of the time, or all of the time. Folks choosing what works best for them and where they stand on <gestures broadly at the endless ethical tarpits>, I completely respect. I also remain very interested in the constructive (but still critical!) thoughts from folks in all of these positions on how shared codebases, both OSS and industry, can survive and even benefit best from all of this.
