Another future prediction is now in the past. A report written in 1988, titled "Analysis of a rotating advanced-technology space station for the year 2025"

Nuclear Design Bureau game

It is like Kerbal Space Program. Except instead of designing spacecraft, the player is designing nuclear explosives.

Warning: game is in early access. Program is buggy and slow.

We even invented a variant. Wrap a dot from cap pistol ammo in the top, and the rocket will explode in mid flight.

my brother and I got into lots of trouble with this...

Arthur C. Clarke suggested definitions for science fiction and fantasy:

"I have suggested an operational definition: science fiction is something that could happen—but usually you wouldn’t want it to. Fantasy is something that couldn’t happen—though often you only wish that it could."

I read a lot. If I encounter an unfamiliar term, I look it up.

As a result, I know lots of things that I wish I did not know.

Today's example is "decorticate posture"

I was on YouTube, watching some "reaction movie viewers". They make videos of themselves watching a movie they've never seen, reacting and making snarky comments.

Some were reacting to the movie Project Hail Mary.

At one point, the movie played the 5 note tune from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".

Not one of the reactors recognized the tune.

I am sooooo old...

But my absolute favorite was "Space Angel", with artwork by the great Alex Toth. It may look laughably crude now, but it was heady stuff for a 5 year old boy. Each episode was only 30 minutes but they were packed with action.

Another weird cartoon I remember watching was "Mr. E from Tau Ceti".
Amusingly the same star is featured in the movie "Project Hail Mary"

I remember watching this cartoon when I was a child. Colonel Bleep had a secret base at zero degrees longitude, zero degrees latitude (off the coast of Africa). They called it Zero-zero Island.

I was in a gloomy mood. I thought of how AI can generate graphic images on command. Then I remembered a science fiction story called "Blit" by David Langford. It was about a scifi image that would kill anyone who looked at it, by causing the human brain to crash.

Wouldn't it be nasty if an AI was poisoned to randomly emit the deadly image?

A Canadian lab just ran a chemical process on real spent nuclear fuel and pulled out 90% of the long-lived danger in 24 hours, the part that forces a burial site to last 100,000 years, with the leftovers meant to fuel a reactor
