at the moment i'm thinking i might use NetBSD for the interface to the rest of the world (assuming i can find a machine on which it knows how to work the WiFi... although actually it can use a mobile phone as a USB modem, same as just about anything else)
@cwebber @spritely I made my AI policy for #mollytime explicit last week:
```
The use of "AI" or "AI agents" for generating text, code, images, music, analysis, discussion, or anything else is completely forbidden on this project. This is a zero tolerance policy, and is not open for debate.
```
Having set the above boundaries and priorities, I do find myself with enough spoons today to remind people opposing the fascist project of AI to not do shit that undermines your own advocacy.
Remember, sloperators will look for any weakness or failings and use it to sow division. When you harass people, they get to play the victim and discredit everything else you've advocated for. Harassment is ethically bad, but it's also bad praxis for advocates. So don't fucking do it, OK?
AI is a fascist project, full stop. I don't think it's right to harass people caught up in the war between fascists and their targets, but I also have a limited amount of spoons to allocate — I am much more concerned with opposing fascists than with how people trying to compromise with fascists feel about my tactics.
Given the choice of where I get involved with my limited time and energy, I will choose to prioritize opposing fascists whenever I can.
what's the OpenBSD position on slop? i've seen conflicting reports, so i'm wondering if and where the dust has settled
NB. please don't quote or refer to open-slopware - i no longer fully trust their, er, vibes
haiku's developers might have adopted an anti-LLM stance, but... i guess not everyone got the memo:

This application was mostly vibe-coded using Antigravity and Gemini 3.0
surprise! this toot might an AIbro magnet
just so you fuckers know: jog on. or fuck off, your choice
when i program in a REPL, i am having a conversation with a machine in its language.
when you use an LLM, you are having a conversation with a machine in your language.
we are not the same.
but at the same time, i wouldn't look at it in the same way as something where someone went "i wrote every line of this myself, without help". because the product is still just a black box - it's not maintainable, and not intended to be.
(and maybe - on top of all the ethical considerations - that's what winds me up about the product of LLMs, in and of itself. it's presented as maintainable, but it's not. the "preferred form for maintenance" is the conversation between human and LLM that produced the code, not the code itself. that's just a byproduct - it's every bit as much a black box as the output of a genetic algorithm; it just isn't obvious about it.
i mention this because i always thought genetic algorithms were kind of neat. but of course, they are used in exactly the same way as LLMs - to magic up software where the finished article, rather than the process, is what the initiator cares about.
i think it comes down to some key differences. firstly, genetic algorithms start, essentially, with white noise, rather than with all the code, ever. secondly, the recombination of code fragments also happens randomly. there's no pretence at intelligence, no prediction based on input, and no explanation or conversation - no parrot, only stochastic, if i'm being cute. thirdly, it also takes a metric fuckton less computational power.
and fourthly, there is absolutely no tolerance for fluff in the specification - unlike LLMs, where the specification is merely a guide to selecting the best fitting bits of code from its input vibes, and as such can tolerate a lot of fluff. but at the same time, the same central issues are there - what happens in the don't-care cases; the leveraging of all resources at its disposal, specified or otherwise...
so yeah. if someone said "hey, look what i made with a genetic algorithm!" i'd have a high degree of confidence that they knew what they were doing, at least to the point of writing the specification at every stage. much more so than when someone says "hey, look what the AI made for me i made!"
let's see, are there any firefox or chromium forks keeping 32-bit support alive these days
Berlin mutual-aid group raided by German police during a DIY HRT information/distribution event. The information we have so far indicates they were raided after publicly posting on social media that they would teach folks how to acquire cryptocurrencies and hormones online.
Adjust your threat levels accordingly, folks.
i am finding myself thinking about whether i would be as down on someone using a genetic algorithm to do something as i would on them using an AI to do it - and if not, why not
Why is everything so round?
We’re headed towards more roundness to invite a friendlier brand tone
mastodon wants so bad to be corporate
Without AI, this project would not have been feasible for me as a hobby project.
then i'm afraid the project was not feasible for you as a hobby project. which is sad, because had you tried it without, you might have surprised yourself.
@fasterandworse What comes to my mind when I think of Firefox?
I've already made an illustration about that.
Well, we woke with huge pain flare ups for no good reason :(
If anyone could help us get no spoons* food that would be really appreciated. http://PayPal.me/diffractie http://ko-fi.com/brynndraws

@jmaris
That is something I have only seen in "The West Wing", and it was a fiction.
Amazing, simply amazing.

I dare not even imagine the incredible validation high Andrew S. Tenenbaum must be experiencing during his every waking hour these days.
