#xenobladechronicles2 is fairly notorious for its low resolution and picture quality, but I know at least one way to solve that ...

Holy heck - I never thought the day would come. Roman from Regular Car Reviews is getting Orange Pilled.

Well, not quite all the way there. But this is still an amazing swing for a YouTube channel specifically about cars.

(Since this just got boosted by NJB: if you don't know RCR, keep your expectations low. This is a baby step not a revolution - it's just coming from a very unlikely source.)

(for the curious, if you were going a much more reasonable 10 mph - which is still pretty okay for getting around in an urban environment - you only need to sustain 36 watts of output)

@notjustbikes I just want to "yes, and" the INSANITY of Forester claiming that bicycle infrastructure should be aimed at people going 30 mph on a bike.

The venerable Bike Calculator (http://www.bikecalculator.com/) is a tool you can use to figure out how much power you need to move a given weight at a given speed up a given incline.

On a flat surface for an average weight rider, to sustain 30 mph you're looking at OVER 600 WATTS. That's a ludicrous amount of sustained power.

I'm curious how people identify themselves in the Netherlands if they do both utility and sport cycling. That's where I'm at - I enjoy fast riding, but it's just not the right bike for grocery runs. (I have an upright beach cruiser with panniers for that with big fat tires and a cushy, springy seat.)

I always figured that as I learned Japanese thumbnails like this would make more sense - but now I know it's an arrow pointing at a shrine and a label that says "that shrine."

Sure is!

I should update my website

#debian #linux question - does anybody know how TLP reports battery charge & how to set the charge limit?

I'm trying to extend the life of a VERY old laptop so I wanted to limit charging to 80% of capacity. But the battery is so old that its reported capacity (59Wh) is only about 70% of the design capacity (84Wh).

So do I set the limit to 80% and trust that it'll give me 47Wh? Or do I have to set the limit to 56% (since 47Wh is 56% of the design capacity)?

A solid success. Found most of a cruiser in the trash on Tuesday. Rounded it off with a new seat, new fenders, new inner tubes, and a cargo rack that comfortably holds my panniers.

It's still far from perfect and it's clear that this bike has been treated like shit (I had to break out a ball-peen hammer to straighten and flatten the chain guard) but it should be for the moment a fairly solid around-town errand bike.

Hold on to your butts

Well since the HDD swap with #Ubuntu 24.04 was a failure, it's time to revert to the old ways. Why Ubuntu Mate 18? Because I happened to have the DVD on my shelf from the last time I installed Linux on one of these old Lenovo ThinkPads. Yes, in 2018.

@ubuntu And I say this might be an Ubuntu question because I can't replicate this behavior in Debian running GNOME.

A #linux question or perhaps just an @ubuntu question - I added a keyboard shortcut for Suspend and since Super+L is Lock I figured an easy-to-remember place for Suspend would be Super+;

It works, sort of. When the system caret is in a text field, Super+; inserts an underlined "e" then you're locked into some weird input mode until you hit Escape or Enter.

My question is just what is the system TRYING to do when I hit Super+;? I can't find it on any list of shortcuts anywhere.

lol, @mcc how married are you to your AoC language selections? https://tabloid.vercel.app/

Well, I promised myself that I would do this so here it is!

Since we just went apple picking I decided to try to shoot an apple with an arrow. I learned that this is a bad idea in 4 ways.

1: obviously it's hard. An apple is a small target.
2: it's very hard to put an apple on a sandbag and not have it roll off as soon as an arrow jostles the sandbag
3: even if you hit it dead on, the apple breaks apart and the arrow goes straight through, so you don't get the Hollywood photo
4: now I have to go clean sticky apple juice off my arrows
