dell: designs a laptop that cannot simultaneously accomodate a 2.5" SSD and an M.2 SSD

me: "fuck that, we're having Second SSD"

well at least I had a good BLFC. I wish it had let me get more than 30 miles before all its coolant and oil left but I'm glad it happened here instead of on top of Sonora Pass

Hi my name is Kyrpä Perkele and I wrote the OS kernel used by everything, ever. I am independently wealthy and I am also the stupidest man alive. Everyone should listen to me.

Happy 6 year (and 1 day) anniversary to one of the most unhinged posts I’ve ever made: the HTML5 accelerator card

@davidgerard “I use Claude to tell me if I should use Claude” is not something I want to publicly admit for fear of utter embarrassment.

they should bring back "music from and inspired by"

:blobfoxgooglyholdingitsheadinitshands: what the absolute fuck is this timeline

EDIT: for those that have blocked/defederated from the instance that Phoronix uses: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Microsoft-Defender-For-Linux-D

you would think basic realtek audio would not be a problem but well, NetBSD: it's like linux from 2003

replaced the kernel with latest, now audio works on my USB speakers. but it doesn't let me turn the volume up or down with the speaker buttons. and of course i can't use my headphones because the speakers have no headphone socket

well, i've been at it for 5 hours and i can't get audio to work on netbsd. samples is always zero, regardless of if it's my onboard sound or a pair of usb speakers

i maybe shouldn't have used a 160gb laptop hard disc, the boot time is measured in minutes

.Xresources sucks so much

continuing my netbsd adventures, trying to configure .Xresources so that uxterm respects my choice of font, and size, and doesn't do anything weird, hopefully

Making a website is hard… I wonder if anyone knows how to do it.

got an smb client working on this ipad, so i don't have to fart files into it with scp. i immediately used it to watch episodes of the muppet show

i just looked around my room and everything had a really strong green tint. i looked away and then back again a few seconds later, and my vision is back to normal

This is why, when people say things like "omg the LLM can generate an embedded kernel for me!!!" I can't help but think

"Yeah, it was trained on _at least_ three of mine, plus immeasurable training load on my webserver serving the docs."

By claiming ownership of the result, or even just claiming to have managed the machine while it spit it out, you're basically just stripping all attribution for the actual work that went into its inputs. You might as well just clone my repo, remove the license, and remove my name. So no, I am not impressed.

Anyway, Anthropic just ripped off a bunch of Rain's work with no attribution, as they do.

Normally when people are deceitful it's an attempt to convince. there's actually a chance of it working. but with these guys it's as though you've been approached at a bus stop by someone who's absolutely insistent that the sky is red.

What do they intend to gain? Is it a distraction? is there another guy kneeling behind me and they're going to push me over?

fedi is not less full of bad weirdoes, i guess. it just takes longer for one to find you
