Just because They really are watching you doesn’t mean you aren’t also both paranoid and mad.

And 9 trimmed vases! I love throwing sets of objects that are not the same, but relate to one another.

Today. Students march to vote after campus voting locations removed.

“North Carolina A&T students march back to campus tonight after voting on the first day of early voting in North Carolina. The Guilford County Elections Board removed their campus early voting polling location earlier this year.”

After this clear description the problem? what she said in reply?

"Mnyaaaaaaah!"

No one even knows what that could mean.

"If you want someone to put meat in your bowl it's better to stand to the side so they can get to the bowl rather than right in front of the bowl (in the way) facing and criticizing the person who is kindly trying to fill it with delicious meats.

For example, when I go to a restaurant I don't stand in the door to the kitchen yelling at the waiters as they try to bring out the food. Because I would be "in the way" and then it would take longer to get the food. I also don't try to trip them."

@bnuuy @futurebird If I may, this is the focus of a very important book
"On the mode of existence of technical Objects" by Gilbert Simondon
He studies technique as a cultural artifact, or rather as the interface between culture and nature
Very pertinent for today, notably as an early critic of cybernetics
A PDF of an English translation is easily found online

@bnuuy

We think of keyboards as "technology" with all the futuristic connotations of that word, but in reality keyboards are storied cultural artifacts shaped by human history. Every key, every character has a story.

What could you understand about a culture, or about a people simply by examining their most popular tools?

@bencourtice @futurebird And I used to know another large lizard (of Australian descent too) who was quite good at cats.

(angry annelids and cnidarians in my mentions)

🚫 "he won't say anything, he's too spineless to stand up to anyone"

✅ "he won't say anything he lacks the exoskeleton to stand up to anyone."

I feel a kinship since I've also been known to squeak in anger.

Wingless wasps, which are sometimes called "ants" can't hiss, but they do squeak angrily.

But their bright colors make their point better.

Hissing is pretty universally recognized across a wide collection of creatures as "go away!"

I really do wonder how old it is.

Since geese hiss, we might assume that dinosaurs of old could hiss. So, then did the cats learn to hiss to imitate the great near-avians of that other age?

@futurebird @LockEx @noondlyt she had only enough credibility for one day but by miracle of beelzebub she lasted for five days.

@futurebird the modern computer interface is a ship of theseus of teletypes, i.e. typewriters that connect to a telegraph line.

originally, teletypes would be connected to each other, so two people on either end of the line could have something kinda akin to our modern-day text chats.

then, turns out connecting one end to a computer also happened to be a great interface to interact with a computer, that way you could even remote access them and everything, and the terminal was born.

then, the paper of the typewriter got replaced by a cathode ray tube screen, though with specialized circuitry to display text, not like how we are used to screens working today.

then, piece by piece: graphical terminals could dispay more advanced graphics, the mouse was invented.

but that modern terminal window or REPL is still an emulation of the teletype connected to a computer at it's core.

edit: removed the bit about home computers, since it is evidently misinfo; i need to look into where i got this idea from sometime.

Oh to be an ice fish making a circular nest in great sandy expanse deep under the ink black-blue water that sits unknown under a glacial shelf on the edge of Antartica....

@davidgerard

David, they do a bit about AI making fun of how Rogan an others talk about it about 3min in. Thought you might find a clip of it useful since this parody was pretty popular.

(and almost so good it's undetectable)

I have these Eastern Jack-O-Lantern Mushrooms (Omphalotus illudens*) growing in my yard, begging for a picture, and their guardian apparently wanted their portrait taken too.(a Gray treefrog, or perhaps a “Cope’s Gray treefrog).

(* I think, it’s the best guess from a reverse image search and the fact they are growing out of a rotting oak stump)
