When you come to a new open source project for the first time to report an issue, a "thank you for your work" or any kind words are very welcome.

We give our free time to contribute. We have no salary and we represent no company. We are humans who want to offer the best for everyone.

Yes, issues are mostly opened when something is wrong, but before writing one, remember the dev will read it and try to help you. We are not a company selling your data, and you did not pay for a service.

You used to rely on MapQuest for printing out driving directions before GPS navigation was a thing. Now it's helping to fight mass surveillance. https://this.weekinsecurity.com/mapquest-now-lets-you-locate-nearby-surveillance-cameras-like-flock/

BREAKING: No more science

it’s fucking amazing that no matter how much I hate matt mullenweg and his fake fucking love and peace CEO persona, he always finds a way to make me hate him more. in this case: singling out and bullying specifically the Wordpress accessibility team, trying to push accessibility work out of core (to make room for more AI of course), and reverting 6 years of accessibility work and letting the person who completed it know they’re no longer welcome to contribute to Wordpress, with no reason given https://cosocial.ca/@mhoye/117450577280451218

It turns out that @freecad is the latest project to fall victim to slop. To their partial credit, they are acknowledging it's controversial and are retooting a sample of pro and anti responses they've had.

The difference in the responses is stark.

The anti-slop responses relate disappointment, betrayal, and concern for the future of the project. These are mostly people who have at least some investment in the project even if "just" users and not contributors.

The pro-slop responses are purely pushback and not constructive: Fork the project. Write your own replacement. Use something else. Ad hominem attacks. These people are not invested in the project at all, they're just interested in pushing their agenda. Come back in a week and they'll be vociferously defending slop on another project, having forgotten that FreeCAD ever existed.

Anything

As a lesbian I think trans women are cool and you should buy them a beverage of their choice at your earliest convenience.

Refusing accessibility contributions and telling experts to no longer help your product is low even for Mullenweg.

any cheap ESP32 based displays kinda large (4" or bigger) with an ambient light sensor? Like the CYD but bigger - don’t need a touch screen

i can't believe it. one week after i posted this request, begging for IA to re-instate the members.xoom.com waybackmachine archive, *they did*.

thank you from the bottom of my heart to whomever at @internetarchive received this request, and acted on it.

i was just able to recover a homepage that was incredibly important to the history of adventure game development, and lost for the past 25 years 🙏

You have probably seen the excellent reporting CitizenLab about AdFection, the insidious targeting and profiling of journalists (and others) via ad networks. But if not, drop everything and read it now.

https://citizenlab.ca/research/how-discover-tech-turned-targeted-ads-into-a-pipeline-for-spyware/

THEN, read Confiant's companian piece which answers the deep technical questions I had about the infection mechanisms and targeting.
