Saw this video last night about live-coding music, which is definitely on my list of interests. This screenshot made me think of you @glyph. Not sure what to do with it, but feels profound. Worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMUZ01p0akw

Ok folks, I am back from Maker Camp. What did I miss?

Today's Lettering Style Challenge was Vintage. I tried to use a sketchy brush to make it look old and used a typically older style of ampersand. So far these have all been straight out of my imagination, no reference, I'll see how long I can keep that up. Maybe if I look at my sheet of different ampersands it'll embed some more in my brain for later prompts.

I wrote a bit about my favorite book, on creativity, and sharing confidence with folks who are just getting started. https://davebauer.art/art-and-making/the-dot-creativity-curiosity-and-confidence/

Related to Baklava Code I used to say "A Maze of Twisty Abstractions, All Alike" I do not remember if I thought of this or is I got it from someone. Well, Duck, Duck, Go says noone said it before!

My podcast is back just a friendly chat with my friend Keith about what we did over summer vacation. https://cp.davebauer.art/@makingproblemstosolve/episodes/what-i-did-over-the-summer-with-keith-from-blackthorne-concepts

Hey anyone who knows of a job in NYC for a kid with a BA in fine arts and experience as a bartender, let me know.

I closed two tabs, and wrote a bit, it let me gather a couple thoughts. "Programming, Art, Taste, Creativity, Closer to the Heart" https://davebauer.art/web-and-python-programming/programming-art-taste-creativity-closer-to-the-heart/

Dang it, saw a post about hand lettering course and remembered that is also one of the things I am trying to learn! Typography/lettering, printmaking, and the band saw, along with making computers do weird stuff are the key interests, and everything builds off of those. It requires a lot of pivoting. Oh yeah throw playing guitar badly and listening to live music in there. If I could figure out a way to make all of those into a career, that would be ideal.

So I read a post about the future of front-end development, and it was mostly about "modern" ways to write framework code, css, etc. Who is out there figuring out the future of building useful code that actually solves people's problems? We don't need more efficient ways to write code, we need to understand what code needs to be written.

Hm. If I want to have fun and un-CMS my web site, so migrate to static pages for my blog, what programming language should I try to learn in the process? I'd probably use Python since that's what I've used recently but that's too obvious. What's the most fun language to make it interesting? Better if the language has a PostgreSQL library, I think.

@cstanhope Huh. Seems like you might be on to something.

The feeling when not only will you never be able to finish all the books on your to-read list, it's pretty clear you also will never have time to visit those open tabs. Almost at the point I need a separate computer for them all.

From a recent post I was thinking about the concept of "problem-solving with friends" and figured out that's what all this has been. Graphic design school, open source software, heck my software career luckily I was always problem-solving with friends. Now it's woodworking, blacksmithing, printmaking and whatever else I want to learn. In community with friends.

I did not close all my tabs but does anyone know how to get Linux to stop waking up when the lid is closed on my Macbook? It should be straightforward, if no external monitor is connected, don't wake up until I open the lid, but I haven't found a way to make that work.

I have been trying to get used to vim-style Helix editor, and after I read the thing about exploiting AI features of VS Code (I don't use them and I am using VS Codium), I briefly thought about going to back to Emacs, but reading about it I think there has to be another way. Should I try to go back to Emacs?

I might have asked this before, but one of these days I need to work on projects instead of just thinking. Does anyone know of "modern" robot hardware that is similar to the old tethered Turtle robots?

Our new design language features crisp right angles, giving the feeling of precision while allowing your content to reach all the way into the corners of our trademark Rectangular displays. Solid colors clearly delineate controls, furthering that feeling of precision while allowing your content to stand out, all while providing ready access to the tools you need. We call it Solid Metal

If you're a programmer and also do some creative work on the side for fun or profit, and would like to have a chat on my podcast about the intersection of curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving, let me know!

Just tried to reply to a post from a locked account. Mine isn't locked right now. What does that mean to people who see my post? Will they just not see the originaj?
