Still somewhat fatigued, improved a little after sitting down and sorting through my papers.
No actual work done today but at least I'm no longer tripping over papers

(Outside of this little bubble, the actually-correct answer is "a symptom of peripheral artery disease". It's when your muscles cramp up or hurt during exertion, because gunked-up arteries can't bring sufficient oxygen to them.
But it *sounds* like what Linus is doing to the kernel, and a RHCP song.)
It's hard for healthy people to imagine what this is like...I spent about 2 years almost 100% bedbound and it is hell. Showered about once every 10 days because that's all that my energy budget allowed.
Some people in this severely ill state experience partial spontaneous recovery but some certainly do not.

Honestly I'm liking BeeRef a lot, it Does The Thing I Want With Minimal Fuss and doesn't have a huge amount of random dependencies (or vibes, given the last commit is 2024)

They grow SO fast!
Today in nice news: a critically endangered Plains Wanderer bird was found at #melbourne airport. These birds are rarely seen due to good camouflage and are usually found hundreds of kilometres north so hopefully that means there is additional currently unknown to scientists populations in the Melbourne area. Impressed by the sharp eyed airport staff who realised they weren’t looking at one of the area’s usual smallish brown birds
New CVE called 'Claude' has been discovered and really ought to be patched immediately.
Periodic reminder that you’re allowed to curate your #Fedi access to only see things that feel nourishing to your soul. You’re allowed to get your news info and hot takes from other places than here. Sharing #doom is normalized on pretty much every other social media so it may feel like you just have to let it hit you here, but you can take steps.
Filters generally work well. My doom filter is called The Horrors and has a looooong list of words. Just added “yandex” and “death cult”.

Look what I saw in a store the other day! It's a froggy change purse made of green velvet and its mouth is red velvet #NYC #EastVillage #Photography #AltText
@suricrasia Here, have a picture a STEM grad once plopped into a computer. The lights are all square and static, though, and there's only 16 colours.
But it's neither important nor useful, and no diffusion model was involved. I don't know how many words it's worth, though.
forcing myself to post something artistic :neocat_sob:
"Can you explain this gap in your resume?"
"Oh yes, that's called a space-break, it generally separates the words so you can differentiate them from other words :3"
"...did you just /say/ a catface?"
The realities of modern warfare make hosting your applications and data in data centers a risky proposition. However, with novel coding techniques, it may be possible to install applications, and maybe even store data, on end users’ own devices
I think I need to make some plans for later today + next week
The question is can I pull it off before the LLM bubble implodes and everyone always thought LLMs were uncool in the first place
I wonder if I can solve the "software is slow and bloaty" problem in at least one area, make it competitive by (a) not including expensive AI integrations and (b) advertising that there are no expensive AI integrations, thus appealing to everyone fed up of AI integrations, and solve many of my current woes
