you know what they say, women be subject to a needlessly gendered division of labor

fyi, if you rely on blocking the Claude user in order to spot GitHub repos that have slop, i have found at least one repository doesn't show the warning for me. (there's a small chance it's because i contributed to that repository, although if so that's imo pretty unexpected behavior.)

If I see AGENTS.md in a repository...

wrestling terminology is really getting out of hand.

it's a little funny to go from envisioning a tool to spending a bunch of time implementing it to forgetting the places i don't use it

saw a clip of susan collins boasting about getting road salt taken off the tariff list because some maine counties buy all their salt from Canada, and it's sort of insane how susan collins is forced to argue that that she's effective because, in some specific cases, she can keep the leader of her party from harming her state.

sure, you wouldn't be like "fuck yeah! we have a new van gogh!!" if it hadn't been authenticated as such. but surely you'd at least describe that the collection appears to have many 19th century paintings, or, idk, wait until you have more information.

what you definitely wouldn't do is be like "we have a bunch of art but we haven't validated it yet," not describe it whatsoever, and then have a big list of claimed titles and artists on some other website.

in fairness, one mathematician told Scientific American he preferred to have them sooner rather than later. (although another disagreed and it didn't line up with the recommendations of the advisory group they themselves convened).

even so, the way the announcement reads strikes me as completely detached from the mathematics themselves. like imagine if a museum got a massive donation and didn't even describe the eras or media, just how many crates of art it was.

famously, the best way to release math is in massive batches, like you've just hacked someone's server and are trying to get it out on the open web before you get caught.

you can tell openai genuinely cares about mathematics and isn't just in it for the marketing because they released a batch of hundreds of results at once.

Not as substantially important, but bad for the vibes are the very generic AI-generated website and the fact it can't even mention what it's copying.

ArtCraft, an LLM reimplementation of Creative Suite, that the creators want to fund by charging access to the AI models is IMO such a grim view of art.

no one really understands any part of your tool because the code was generated with AI, and the people making the tool's only guiding principle is to copy another tool. meanwhile you pay a similar amount to what you paid Adobe for tokens in order to distance yourself from your creative work in service of productivity.

one consequence of the way the current supreme court has grabbed power from other branches is that if the political winds blow the wrong way, they need to white knuckle it for years hoping they don’t die in office. alito seems to be in this position

i don’t feel sympathy ofc—it‘s what they signed up for by becoming a justice and choosing to serve well past the usual retirement age.

read an article from an AI booster where he had it summarize a movie it ”watched“ and the way they ensured it didn’t have the entire verbatim script ”memorized“ was to ask it? what are we doing here?! i‘m not even clear on whether the author watched the movie so he could make sure the summary was accurate!
