there's little endian, big endian, and weekendian.

Once I start falling asleep I can't stop

It's a sleepery slope

(Probably the best method is using a compressor, like ZX0, so it reduces the 6912 bytes a lot, and that'll be much faster...)

This picture takes 50.72 seconds to load. It is the loading screen of the Erbe version of Arkanoid. Most of the pixels are on.
If I apply the transformation I mention, it only takes 34.13 seconds.

How is this useful? It isn't, probably.

One silly way to reduce the load time of your game loading screen in the ZX Spectrum would be:

1. Figure out how many "on" pixels are in each 8x8 square.
2. If there are more "on" pixels than "off" pixels, invert the pixels in that square and swap its PAPER and INK values.
3. This reduces the time because "on" pixels are encoded as "1" and off pixels are encoded as "0", and (usually) "1" bit pulses are twice the length of "0" bit pulses (on tape).

I hate GUIs when I'm sad

At least the shell is consoling

When this AI thing crashes and burns, I hope we get back to guilds and we get the Honorable Guild of Traditional Coders.

We will honour the Editor, which will be simple and not get in the way.

We will honour the Makefile, which will be clear and well-maintained.

We will honour the Language, which will be expressive and well structured.

We will honour the CPU, which will execute the Assembly promptly and will not have thoughts of its own.

And we will honour the Coder, who will be dexterous and capable with the Editor, who will keep the Makefile working, who will be well-versed in the Language, and who will know the intricacies and nuances of the CPU.

And the Software will be good.

@gloriouscow

I compiled and ran your emulator. Amazing piece of software, performs really well and the emulation is perfect.

I ran Area5150, of course.

I hope I can make my 6845 emulation for the CPC models some day at least half as good as yours!

Kudos, cheers, congratulations!

Periodic reminder that nothing in this account has been created or written or made using GenAI or LLMs or stuff.

Yep, these terrible jokes pop up inside my head.

(And the emulator is also 100% human-generated code, and it will remain the same...)

Is the plural of "toot" "teet"?

In Spanish, when someone is a bit too full of themself, we say that they "no tienen abuela" (do not have a grandma) because usually the one who sings praise about you is your grandma, and I don't know if other languages have this clear grandmother job description.

Sam CtrlDelAltman.

In we had stayed with the ZX Spectrum, Sam Altman would have never existed. Only Sam Symbolshiftman and Sam Capsshiftman.

–The existence of Sam Altman implies the existence of Sam Ctrlman and Sam Shiftm...
–THE EXISTENCE OF SAM ALTMAN IS HORRIBLE.
