Progress is being made on @mosscap, the friendly #RailsFork!

We have just merged successful independently running CI configurations for the forked `mosscap-support`, `mosscap-http` (ex actionpack), `mosscap-model` and `mosscap-view` gems. So, now everything is green, we can really start working on those at pace. 🎉

`mosscap-record` needs eyes fresher than mine on a bad MySQL config, but that just leaves us with `mosscap-core` (ex railties), which is the trickiest one.

Anyone know of any student-led anti-GenAI campaigns in UK schools? My daughter hates the amount it gets used *by the school itself* and wants to do something…

#AskFedi I need a collaborative document tool (maybe like etherpad?) where I can have a public view, a private link for editing, and ideally another so some people can comment. What's good these days?

The reported rush for slovenian domain names (.si) is incredibly fucking stupid. Still, it'll make it even easier to tell which organisations are "working towards the Fuhrer".

HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHHAAHAA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHA HAHAHAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAH AHAHAHAHAHAHAH <gasp> AHAHAHAH AHAHAH HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA AAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHHA <gasp> “SI” <gasp> HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHAHAH HAHAHAHAH

With the Rails 8.2 release (probably) imminent, work is about to ramp up on @mosscap, the fork we've been laying the groundwork for.

If you want to reduce the impact of the "weird guys" on Rails, Ruby and OSS in general, we need your help!

This is ESPECIALLY true if you're a member of a community marginalized by the far-right rhetoric that comes from Rails' founder. This fork can't be led by the usual white male voices (e.g. me), we need *much* more diverse leadership.

Think I'm going to institute a new policy on the Manyfold codebase - anyone (or more likely any*thing*) explicitly asking for a CVE ID to be issued on a security report is going to get banned from the repo.

EDIT: I did: https://github.com/manyfold3d/manyfold/pull/7149

Oh, YES. Been meaning to do this for years, and finally found which old box the disks were in.

I'm interested in parallels; has any industry ever marketed itself before by causing a scare and saying "won't someone please stop us"?

TIL that the UK PSTN is being fully turned off in January! I assume BT are going to make a killing selling off all the copper. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-transition-from-analogue-to-digital-landlines

I guess some people really just don't give a shit.

Someone taking your non-AI-using open source project and (a) vibecoding a load of additions to it in their own fork while also (b) vibecoding a "clean" equivalent is *incredibly fucking depressing*.

I mean, find me a single American tech organisation that *isn’t* full of right wing libertarians.

That’s the secret lurking in open source - it’s actually a weird combo of gun-toting anti-government survivalists and radical progressives* who have managed for years to share some similar goals because politics wasn’t mentioned. But then software ate the world; software *is* politics, and vice versa.

* (I’m in the second camp, I’m sure the first camp would use different words for me.)

Off to see The Levellers and Sleeper at shove park this afternoon; can’t find my crusty dreadlocks though.

COME ON folks, "Black Hole Sun", surely. God, kids these days with their fancy telescopes and lack of knowledge of classic 90s alternative music, despite being able to see back to the start of the universe.

@1password I’m a family customer and cannot begin to express how disappointed I am with your sponsorship of Omarchy, an organisation led by DHH, a white nationalist who has outright called for the ethnic cleansing of Europe.

I’m just one subscription, but if you continue this, I won’t be giving you any more of my money so that you can pass it on to such people.

Modern Dependency Problems (with apologies and thanks to XKCD)

Probably needs more arrows, tbh

And yet when anyone suggests maybe let’s have an open license that excludes certain uses (e.g. military), oh no, that’s just impossible.

“Black academic hounded to death by the press for plagiarism allegations started by a known racist” versus “AI companies owned by white billionaires pushing industrial plagiarism machines down everyone’s throats whether they want them or not”

I don’t see the lawyers or academics who let an LLM produce fake citations getting the same treatment. Remember kids, plagiarism is *super cool* if you use Claude to write your code, or ChatGPT to write that essay!

Bit of #minipainting in between switching between 3 different contexts… why this mini today? Oh, no reason… #BinDay
