A disabled boat being towed into a marina we were in ourselves 2 months ago makes the orca situation very real.
They attacked a second boat in the same place. It sank. Everyone is alive.

There’s a phenomenon I think of as the seven year rule where people lose contact with who they were before, and especially after life circumstances — money, celebrity, power in particular — cause a discontinuity. They don’t empathise with that person any more, don’t recognise the circumstances they come from. They most often also discount the role luck played.

This good because it recognises that people can change a lot over time. David Hamburger Helper isn’t the same person as dhh, even if the seeds were there. Goes for a lot of other people too.
I see it’s “look how clever I am for not using Apple devices” day. <sigh>
I know what's been bothering me about a lot of the neurodiversity movement and influencers: it all feels very much like the New Atheists and other people around that in the 90s who were essentially putting together their own churches. The sense of superiority, the sense of being party to special revelation, the sense of being a chosen people oppressed by society.
None of that went anywhere good.
(To be clear: There are no gods or demons and I've never been accused of being "neurotypical".)
We’re trying to update some stuff around the house that’s worn out in the twenty years since we moved here or come from places we lived before that.
Is there a tax on saturated colours? Did I miss something? Shades of fucking grey and insipid pastels.
So who else is mostly cooking for the next 24 hours? Anyone interested in a #xmascookalong?
(And see this thread from @neonsnake if you're new to it and looking for ideas.)
And stop basing your personality around fucking programming languages, libraries or toolkits. Are you 15?
Fuck I’m tired of this bollocks. I’ve been listening to it for damn near forty years now.
Jesus fucking christ people, companies are not your fucking friends.
There is no such thing as a free market.
Markets only exist in the presence of regulation. The question is who the regulations protect.
Trying to work out if using hot glue to attach metal miniatures into slot bases is a good idea, what everyone else has always done or immensely, obviously stupid. #warhammer #paintingwarhammer #paintingminis
Red: USA. Not-red: Not USA
Just say "I really want to collapse into the comfortable clutches and easy dopamine hits of American corporate social media" and be done. Your justifications and rationalisations aren't interesting.
