Wondering if it's feasible to turn pcgeos into portable code by auto translating most of its mostly-assembly code into C (and then doing cleanup passes both manually and using coccinelle). The "kernel parts" like memory management will require a rewrite, but that's simple enough.

The result might be small enough to run on esp32-level hardware: After all, it was originally designed to run well on 8MHz 8086 with 500KB or so of RAM present.

Trying #NetBSD after all those years, attempt 1:
My #coreboot'ed getac/p470 crashes during kernel init when the rfkill driver tries to figure out how to disable wifi. Guess I'll have to update the coreboot firmware and/or debug some ACPI.

With all the "computing going down the drain" vibes, I wonder if I should put "legacy computing" (1980-2022, RIP) on a desktop somewhere in a corner and experiment with using small ESP32 and similar tinkerware to base my day-to-day computing needs on.

(edit to add: work stuffs still require legacy computing, as well. still: outside that, could I migrate away?)
