Had to rip out the hat and start over with one less pattern repeat. It was far to big. Hope it will be ok now and it is a quicker knit.

#dogsofmastodon

NimbleNeedles has a new video out about neat cast ons for not-1x1-ribbing. It's a really nice overview. The other day I cast on a 4x2 ribbing with a different method. A long tail cast on in pattern with a twist for more stretch. An invention by Suzanne Bryan. It's easy and good enough for this yarn.

The person that sold me the Poll Dorset fleece gave me some stunningly beautiful batts of Icelandic wool. And when going through some crafty stuff today I found these forgotten fauxlags of very soft green what I suspect is a blend of alpaca and Clun Forest fiber. I think this can go together. Perhaps in a colourwork cowl?

To whom it may concern: I see on Ravelry that MijnWolden made a bundle of patterns with interesting sock construction.

This is what it looks like after a rather rainy day. Not much change. The seller of this fleece recommends soaking it for a week in water with a bit of washing soda. I'll keep you posted.

It was an excellent day to do a little bicycle tour to pick up a Poll Dorset fleece. The seller recommended to soak it for a long period in water and soda. The idea is to get rid of the dirt and keep some of the grease. So without much picking I divided it over three containers on the deck outside. Let's see/smell what happens.

This poofed a lot. Very nice elastic yarn. 127 grams and about 160 meters. Should be enough for a nice hat.

My friend has a colleague who has taken up wood turning as a hobby and is willing to make me a hand spindle. He asked for a drawing of the shape that I would like to have. What does your favourite spindle look like?

But while fleece soaked I also finished the 234 stitches of Icelandic bind off of the second hand spun sock. Soaked them and will dry them on my feet, to be sure they don't shrink too much.

Defied #FinishOrFrogAlong and sorted out part of the Scottish Blackface fleece that I got through a friend for free. I have doubts. Lots of kemp and felted tips. Sorted it in four fractions: don't spend any time on (50%), coarse (25%), promising but quite badly felted tips (15%) and promising (10%). Washed it and it remained rather ugly yellow. So dyed the most promising two portions.

For WIP Wednesday and the finish or frog along I have:
Plied and finished purple yarn that turned out gorgeous. The combination of purple and natural grey shades in the yarn is very satisfying. This completes the yarn for a colour work sweater. I may have to rethink how to use the colours.
The handspun second sock is past the heel. So soon I will be out of reasons to shy away from the waffle stitch sweater.

When you want to wind a ball, but don’t have a swift.

For #WIPWednesday I have a handspun sock with a big ruffle. Luckily Icelandic bindoff of 234 stitches with a crochet hook is quite fast. Also I plied and finished three more bumps of the super squishy brown yarn. I want to give the colourwork sweater a lilac lace edging, because why not. So I'll process some dyed Clun Forest and light locks of Rouge/Tex fleece from my stash to card, blend and spin later.

Did a lot of plying on the new wheel today. And I definitely want a faster whorl. Still some singles left, but I'll just add the rest of the singles onto those large bobbins and have two more plying sessions. Winding and finishing tomorrow and then see if it resembles close enough the coloured commercial yarns that I want to pair it with.
