One of those annoying #writing sessions where I spend an hour just researching stuff, trying to figure out a good location for an upcoming scene, and don't advance my word count at all.
The research is important, and useful (albeit quite frustrating on this particular topic!); I don't want to minimize it. But I'd also really like to make progress on my draft.
I'm tired of still being mentally fuzzy after my two cups of morning tea, so today, I'm trying something new:
Two cups of coffee.
I just hope this doesn't leave me twitchy and over-wired. All I want is to be awake, alert, energetic, but not twitchy. Is that so much to ask?
(Also, I'm worried that my #caffeine consumption is rising.)

I don't recall the exact numbers anymore, but they were around $169, $250-ish, and $400-something. Yikes.
So I said I can't afford that, and now I'm walking around still un-vaxxed. Trying not to feel guilty about that.

Oh right, holy shit, I almost forgot, I've got a vaccination appointment at 14:30 today! Covid, flu, and pneumonia. (I didn't even know they had pneumonia vaccinations now, but apparently they're recommended for us over-50s, so sure, let's do it.)

We wouldn't have to teach our daughters to (try to) avoid rape if more of us taught our sons the way this writer's teaching her son.

If you _require_ education, and you also make start/end dates required fields? That's gonna look really bad if you ever get hit with an age discrimination lawsuit.
If you can see that someone went to college >25 years ago, then you can tell they're over 40.
You should really make all that stuff optional.

TBPH, I'm starting to think I may be trying to cram too much plot into this book.
Like, I need to admit that I can't have roughly as many plot beats as _The Lord of the Rings_ did in only 100,000 words.
Today, when my brain is really working at sub-par capacity, it becomes really obvious, as I can't figure out how to arrange things and fit them together.
I'm going to have to chop *immense* amounts of stuff when I revise from 1st to 2nd draft.

Rereading _Artificial Condition_, #Murderbot book 2, and I'm really annoyed that now Murderbot sounds like Alexander Skarsgård in my head. If I try really hard, I can get it to sound mostly like it used to when I first read the books, but it's hard.
No shade to Skarsgård; he did an excellent job, and I look forward to season 2. But when I read, I want to get *my* Murderbot's voice back.
The visuals in my head are shifting back to a brown-skinned person, so maybe the voice will follow soon.
Dangit, I thought I was going to have a fun little family, parent-child interaction in this scene, but I just started writing it and realized: This is supposed to be after 11:00 pm. There's no way the going-on-6-years-old girl would still be awake. Rats.
Still, verisimilitude beats "rule of cool" or "but I wanna do something fun!". This character is a *good* parent, not one who lets their kids stay up way too late on a school night!
Oh, there are other human actors in this? Okay! I did not know that.

As a could-have-been actor, I've always been intrigued by the thing about how Michael Caine treated his Muppet co-stars as fellow actors, while Tim Curry treated himself as a fellow Muppet. I'd been meaning to watch _The Muppet Christmas Carol_ first, then _Muppet Treasure Island_, to compare and contrast, and planned to go from what I expect will be more sedate to what I expect will be more unhinged.
But nope, the universe had other plans. Tonight, it's time for commemorative Curry lunacy. 🏴☠️
