Step 1: Social Engineering to convince banks to "go paperless"
Step 2: Oopsie, the system erased itself.
Step 3: Party like it's a debt-free world?

Humans build things and care for each other. This is what we evolved to do. It's something we're driven biologically to do, and we feel bad when we don't do it. That bad feeling is every ancestor who survived through mutual aid burying every (not) ancestor who died from competition.
We build commons. Capitalism is a system that maximizes the extraction of value. Looting commons, be it land or water resources managed for generations, or a tradition of information sharing built up over generations, or systems of trust built up over decades, capitalism is a machine that turns shared wealth and shared costs into centralized wealth and externalized costs.
Capitalist markets are basically a genetic algorithm that uses wealth as a fitness function. One of the properties of these algorithms is that they will have side effects. Destroying commons is an unavoidable side effect. Every possible common will be destroyed until we choose a better algorithm on which to base our society.

@nina_kali_nina haha, but all of us are fallible (although I hope not in such egregious ways). I now also wonder what linux could’ve been if it was truly a community and not a bunch of corps in a trench-coat? And that OSS projects worthy of our participation should be community-oriented ones and not lead by “benevolent dictators”.
Me: it's still hard for me to accept that big tech did "embrace, extend, extinguish" of Linux 🙄
Bae: it's worse, they did "embrace, extend, extinguish" of Linus

@JessicaAnnEng My daughter got in trouble at school for calling out a teacher for using AI to generate a poster.
It was the art teacher.
The poster was to promote a student art competition.

Every time I see someone talking about RSI (recursive self-improvement), I think they're talking about RSI (repetitive strain injury)
What are you made of?
The GOP loves nothing more than to bang the drum about how Democrats are going to let all the undocumented people double vote
and also maybe hack the voting machines to only return results for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in every race across the country,
even though she’s in Congress.
And still, somehow, it’s GOP operatives and true believers who keep actively, consciously committing voter fraud.
In the latest, it’s Scott Presler, a top GOP grassroots organizer.
Presler owns a house in Pennsylvania, and The Bulwark learned he loves his friends so much that he lets them vote there.
No, not live there. Vote there.
In 2024, Presler voted from his home in Beaver County, and GOP operatives from across the country did too.
And that’s not even getting into the repeated voter fraud committed by regular GOP voters.
Meet Donald Kirk Hartle.
Donald found out a ballot was cast in his dead wife’s name, which he called “sickening,”
part of what GOP operative Matt Schlapp touted as one of
“hundreds of dead people” who voted in 2020.
Sickening indeed
—except it was Donald Hartle himself who cast his dead wife’s ballot.
Or how about not one, not two, but three residents of The Villages, the Trumpy senior citizen stronghold in Florida, who admitted to voting twice in the 2020 election?
The GOP doesn’t care about voter fraud. They care about suppressing the votes of people who don’t vote for Republicans.
But if you’re a Republican and down to commit a little light voter fraud?
They’re ready to ride.

“It’s a poor worksman who blames his tools” has always been complete nonsense. No-one complains about imperfect tools faster and louder than a master. A master will yank a cheap or damaged tool out of your hand and yell at you for not blaming it yet
Cheap, lousy tools come from middle managers who don’t know how to do your job. Blame the hell out of poor tools and those who demand you use them
People ask what it takes to keep a 1000-year-old witch like me alive, then look shocked when I tell them I need 1 human baby sacrifice every moon cycle.
But when you amortize the baby over a month, it’s barely anything. What’s a baby weigh…8 lb.s? That’s like a 1/4 lb. a day—that’s hardly any baby!
