@jmovs @ossington Great video, the Guilder designs were indeed wonderful! Although one could say Swiss give the Dutch a run for their money when it comes to bank note design, and coincidentally the versions currently in circulation also omit portraits, as this video showcases https://youtu.be/PdW63lP-yI8
Very informative on NZ election process. I am ashamed to say that having been a NZ voter for 25+ years i learnt a number of things about our our elections.
If you know anyone who's not registered remind them they've only got until 25 October to do so. The polling is very close, and the change in voter registration will mean that without action young people will have even less infuence than is usual.
You know that film about the Israeli government's use of AI targetting in the mass killings of civilians in Gaza ? That film that you've probably never heard of, and that almost no one else you know has heard of ? Yeah, well Benjamin Netyanyahu wants to make sure you find out about it . #streisand .

Something I've noticed while on book tour for the past couple of weeks is that Mastodon is a really good way to let people know about bookstore events. So many people I've met on the road have told me that they found out about my book tour from me or other folks on the fedi. I think it's partly because so many book-loving people are on Mastodon. But also if you compare Mastodon to places like Bluesky or Insta, the community here has a higher percentage of actual humans vs. bots or operatives.

Pedophilia is part of the platform.
Creepy. And no.
Heh. I misremembered the date--thought it was today, but looks like it was October 5. On that day, 10 years ago, I posted a link to Mastodon on Hacker News, with the title "Show HN: A new decentralized microblogging platform". That it made it to the front page ended up bringing the first 5,000 users, setting the project on the trajectory it's on today.
If this Ocean’s Eleven prequel with Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie is set in the 1960s, how come the Hôtel de Paris sign is set in Arial? And done digitally? #film #typography
The new Sense and Sensibility adaptation is really good—gets the most critical parts of Austen in there, fantastically acted and directed, great photography and sets. Definitely the better #film yesterday. #AustenPowers
