Gonna start adding my ko-fi to PRs at work so reviewers can tip me.

They should make caffeine-free energy drinks, for when it's late and you want something that tastes like shit, but won't make you feel like it.

They also have a grey market Japanese import Taiko drum machine. Left half of the the left drum wasn't working, went to tell the folks working the booth for that vendor. "It's the wi-fi," they confidently proclaimed.

They were 0% correct, but we both decided not to argue about it, them with a world historic eye roll.

(The WiFi was, in fact, causing a different and already resolved problem.)

Extremely strong cabaret lineup at this year's Portland Retro Gaming Expo.

(I brought most of these, and of the ones I didn't, I own a copy of all but one.)

Little Slop of Horrors

(Needless to say, if you have a job opening at a shop not packed with AI pod people, I am *extremely* hireable right now.)

My work has forced everybody to use so-called "AI," and I now cannot avoid it without losing my job.

Every 1:1 with my manager now goes something like:

Manager: "So how's the AI?"
Me: "Bad. It's not good, it doesn't work very well, and using it makes me feel bad. It regularly has category-error misunderstandings of what I want and how to accomplish it, and continually correcting it is frustrating and slow. It's like pair programming with an intern who never learns."
Manager: "But other people seem to be getting results with it."
Me: "I think they're bad results. I had to fix a customer-impacting issue while on call because it was LLM code that wasn't vetted. When I review code, I often find major errors. But I can't review every PR, so a ton of this stuff is shipping."
Manager: "...but other people seem to be getting results with it."

But the metric is now "how many PRs are you landing," which is the same as measuring performance by lines of code, which we've known for *decades* doesn't work at all. And when there's a performance measurement, you orient to it: Ship as much as you can, as fast as you can, with no regard for quality, maintainability, correctness, etc. There's incentive to ship broken code, because fixing it requires more PRs, which boosts your "productivity."

"But other people seem to be getting results." So it's my fault for holding it wrong.

Spotted last night.

[Discussing kid travel plans with my ex]

Me, a week ago: You'll need to buy a train ticket at least a week in advance, they all sell out.
Me, on Sunday: If you haven't gotten that ticket already, you really need to.
My ex, today, Tuesday: So all the trains are sold out,

reposting this because holy FUCK if this isn't so goddamn true

You can help me find my next job! This market is bad for everyone and I want to meet people 💕 https://lifeofaudrey.com/2026/09/03/job-networking.html

Sending up the "please invite me to an unscheduled 90 minute meeting" signal, aka, unpausing my music player.

If you use #GrapheneOS, you'll want to install the update that released today, it fixes a horrendous, embarrassing performance regression Google shipped.

Oh man, Bruno Kramm (keyboard player of Das Ich) died on tour last week. This sucks. Been a fan of Das Ich since the early 2000s, and just bought their new album (their first in 19 years) today.

Igorrr was the headliner, I already knew I liked them. They brought the house down.

I also saw this band, they similarly get a hearty endorsement.

I guess I'd describe them as gabber techno black metal harsh noise fusion, so ah, give em a listen if that sounds like something you'd enjoy.

This band I knew nothing about now carries my Full Endorsement.
