I'm tired of everyone apparently being happy with things that look like they work, instead of things that really work.

A new hero has just been born: may I present Child B's 'Burger Knight'.

#Parenting #Art

Child A: 6 is the best number between 0 and 10
Me: OK, why?
A: You can easily divide it by1, 2 and 3, plus it's a perfect number, so if you add 1+2+3 together you get 6.
Me: I guess that's cool
A: So that's why it's the best.
Me: OK, but my original question was; are you finished in the bathroom?

I find the blurry photos of your front door delivery companies send you as proof of delivery pretty creepy. They have a certain Blair Witch vibe and make the package look very threatening.

So only about 20 years after it was released, but I've beaten Super Mario 64!

My parents coming to visit? What makes you think that?
Oh this vacuum cleaner in my hands for the first time in weeks, pure coincidence I assure you.

The breaking changes in #Hugo do drive me crazy if you're not using it on an almost daily basis. I wanted to update one page in my blog, and since I last used Hugo it's gone from version 0.159.0 to 0.163.0, this now means the following things don't work:

• Raw .html pages, I have to add a new config option to allow what is now considered insecure files to be added (0.162)
• I can't use .Paginate on my 404 template page either (can't see the changelog for that)
• At least there's a deprecation warning for .Site.LanguageCode being deprecated.

I wish they'd finally adopt semantic versioning, so you can prepare yourself and know when you're going to have to do extra work to get things to work again.

#StaticSite

Ahhhh that's better.

#coffee

Uh oh. We're running dangerously low on #coffee

The sticker's still correct: know what's a nice price? 3.83€ (delivered) on eBay. Feels illegally cheap at this point.

Anyone else remember when #Lego didn't have massive IPs to draw on, and came up with their own random stuff? Been digging out some of my old Lego for the children, and remembering the stories and worlds we imagined to put the the sets we got into.

Did you know that if you accidentally add a "t" in the wrong place in the last word of the sentence "Give feedback on the presentation they shared" the email reads very differently?

So this has me thinking, what's the most other omg.lol/social.lol people (Lolers??) that one member has met in person?

I've had quite a good year for that. This weekend I was lucky enough to meet @bendaubney and @rtfm . Earlier in the year I had the pleasure of meeting @keenan , and there's my dearest @sara¹

1: this isn't her main account, but she introduced me to omg.lol, and I see her on a very regular basis - so I say that counts.

I was on a boat!

I do love seeing context free replies appearing in my timeline. I don't bother to look up what they're talking about, that takes all the fun out of whatever my brain has conjured up.

Expedia: Your hotel has sent you a message:
Me: OK, why isn't in the email then?
Expedia: Login to our messaging system to see this message
Me: I guess it's important or private then. Logs in.
Expedia: Thanks for logging in, here's a two factor auth code to the exact email address we sent the last email to
Me: OK, that seems pointless...
Expedia: Thanks for confirming you email address, you're now logged in
Me: ....but you already had my email address, that's where you've been sending all this.., OK what's this super important message then..
Hotel, via Expedia: Here's a list of nearby car parking locations!
Me:....I'm not driving there. You're in the middle of a big city. FFS.

This is currently my favourite mistranslation, from #German to #English.

On a sign in a ferry, under the steps to rescue a person overboard, step 4 of the Deckhand's instructions are "Bergen des Ertrinkenden" (English meaning: 'recover the drowning person'), which is translated as "Mountains of the Drowning".

I can see how this happened; in German "Bergen" as a noun is the plural of "Berg" (mountain), but as a verb means recover/retrieve/salvage.

"Mountains of the Drowning" were my high school Post-Rock band btw.

Any #Mikrotik experts know what I'm doing wrong and why I can't connect to a new router please?

I bought a hAP be lite router but am unable to set it up, following the setup instructions none of the following work:

• Connecting a laptop via ports Ethernet 2-4 doesn't work, not even a link light (on the laptop), no route to host on ping.
• Neither my laptop or phone can find the wireless network it's meant to generate by default
• It did briefly appear on the network I connected it to, and supposedly got an IP address via DHCP, but pinging that address doesn't get a response (that might be the default firewall settings though?)
• When it powers on there's a dark blue light on the front, after five minutes that goes off, never changes colour. Is it mean to be green or some other colour eventually?
• I tried loading the backup rooterBOOT, which after the initial green flashes caused the LED to glow turquoise for five minutes, then it turned off and didn't turn itself back on.
• I've tried the included USB-C power supply, and a USB-C dock that can supply enough power, no difference.
