This past Tuesday night, we met and had a relaxed Hour of Action and researched our local elected officials and their stances on climate change. While last night’s action is not as flashy as some of our other HoAs, doing this research helps us get to know our representatives better and builds the framework for a trusted relationship when we meet them in constituent meetings. If you didn’t have a chance to attend last night’s Hour of Action, no worries! You can find attached a copy of the Issue Briefing and a link to start your own Representative Research document.

Join us tomorrow evening for another Hour of Action to defend and advance #ClimateJustice in #Virginia and #RVA! 7pm at Väsen Brewing in Scott's Addition! https://luma.com/d9bwejqw

Frustrating to see Richmond City Council renege on a plan to install #solar panels on government buildings in the city. The fight goes on, though. We'll regroup and keep trying, because what's the alternative? Give up and succumb to climate change fatalism? #RVA

Our next Hour of Action is coming up this Tuesday, 7pm at Väsen Brewing in Scott’s Addition! Grab a beer and help us advance clean energy and cleaner modes of transportation in #RVA! https://luma.com/s5v8z5zb?lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&lm_source=calendar

We hope everyone is staying safe in this heat! Reminder that we have our next Hour of Action coming up this Tuesday, 7pm at Väsen Brewing in Scott’s Addition, to continue pressing for solar and for alternative transportation infrastructure in #RVA! RSVP here https://luma.com/1p5rklz6

Despite Governor Spanberger gutting data center bills of important protections for #Virginia residents, the battle to keep the Commonwealth moving towards sustainable energy continues. Join us at our next Hour of Action, July 7th, 7pm at Väsen Brewing! #RVA RSVP here: https://luma.com/1p5rklz6?lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&lm_source=calendar&tk=hOBXEf

Another Hour of Action in the books! #RVA residents took action to urge city leaders to continue increasing solar power in the city, while county residents wrote to their county supervisors urging them to oppose the merger of Dominion Energy and NextEra Energy which would result in the creation of the largest utility in the country and further increase prices on consumers. The merger is also bad news because:

- NextEra has allegedly interfered with elections in Florida, recruiting non-competitive independent “ghost” candidates with the same last names of candidates they wanted to defeat.
- NextEra attempted to coerce Jacksonville City Council member Garrett Dennis into resigning his seat in exchange for a lucrative job offer
- NextEra has a history o f inflating prices to bolster its profit margin; they spent over $60 million to elect candidates who then removed regulators critical of the company’s rate increases
- NextEra is doubling down on fossil fuels and blocking clean energy deployment, planning to build 10 gigawatts worth of gas generators in Pennsylvania and Texas in 2026.

#RVA #Virginia

Our next Hour of Action is this coming Tuesday, 7pm at Väsen Brewing in #RVA! Lots going on: the city is re-committing to installing more solar after pressure from our last action meeting, Dominion wants to merge with NextEra which would create a colossal monopoly that would see rates skyrocket, and the battle to stop the epidemic of data centers continues around the region. RSVP here: https://luma.com/vgu0qb0j?lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&lm_source=calendar&tk=WDG1AC

Join us tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at 7pm at Väsen Brewing in Scott’s Addition for another Hour of Action! We’ll be tackling NextEra’s attempted buy out of Dominion Energy. If you haven’t already heard, Dominion Energy and NextEra are attempting to merge. If you care about the climate, clean energy, or your wallets, then you should likely be upset about this development. NextEra’s subsidiaries have a history of obscene rate hikes, political corruption, and doubling down on fossil fuels.
Not all hope is lost, though. NextEra has tried to purchase at least five other utilities for which the deals ultimately fell through because of regulator skepticism and state legislator pressure. We **must** do the same here in Virginia. Can you join us tomorrow for an Hour of Action to oppose this deal?

Friendly reminder that solar isn’t affected by blockades of the Strait of Hormuz. Nor by pipeline ruptures or by decisions by OPEC.

Climate Changemakers continues pressing city of Richmond officials to pursue solar energy as well as building out infrastructure for alternative modes of transportation. We’ve grown in just one year from a handful of folks to a group of about 15 to 23 regulars every other week. The idea is to make climate advocacy easy and accessible to folks with busy schedules. Just one hour of action every other week has yielded several victories over the last year, both electorally and policy-wise.

Join us every other Tuesday at Väsen Brewing in Scott’s Addition, 7 to 8pm!

Just a day after we reached out to the Mayor’s office urging them to continue with their solar installations, Jacqui from C3 got a response back from the City which included next steps on how we can push the City forward! This was a **direct result **of us making an organized effort and reaching out to our elected officials! Give yourself a pat on the back.
This is a huge win, but it’s not a done deal. As a result, we’re going to keep striking while the iron’s hot! Join our next Hour of Action to help keep the ball rolling! RSVP here: https://luma.com/oul6sxmg?lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&lm_source=calendar

Last night, we partnered with the wonderful folks at C3 and urged the City of Richmond to not squander its huge opportunity to deploy solar in the City. Currently, the City is dragging its feet and is set to lose out on tax credits that would offset the cost of solar and potentially lose out on millions in energy savings over the next few decades. Without those tax credits, the City is jeopardizing these solar projects altogether. Want to learn more and take action? You can do that below. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QjtqkExu2Ze0DprQQBDU6Xcos5V_5F_tTzdKqZ6IpzU/edit?lm_source=calendar&lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&tab=t.0#heading=h.g2qzjofw3hzg #RVA

Tuesday night, we partnered with Strong Towns #RVA and Richmond’s Partnership for Smarter Growth to learn about and take action on Central Virginia’s Long Range Transportation Plan! It was a lot of information, but luckily Kristin with PlanRVA was able to give us a taste of the different transportation options alongside some sweet cupcakes.
In addition to last night’s action, we’re also recruiting folks to speak at PlanRVA’s meeting on April 23rd at 9:00 AM in favor of walking, biking, and public transit. Changemakers will be giving public comment virtually and we don’t expect it to take more than 15 minutes. Can you join us? https://luma.com/wbiszv8w?lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&lm_source=calendar

This week's Hour of Action is a very special partnership action with Richmond's Partnership for Smarter Growth and Strong Towns RVA!
We'll be advocating for Central Virginia's Long Range Transportation Plan to prioritize walking, biking, and public transit over road widening and highway expansion. This plan is the guiding document for our transportation system through the year 2050, and it's really important that our public officials know that we want more non-polluting options for getting around.

If this is your first time, no worries! Just bring a laptop or phone, grab a friend, maybe a drink, and let's get to work!
There's no need to prepare — come as you are. Whether you're a seasoned advocate or brand new to political action, this space is for you. RSVP here: https://luma.com/7s0p84ot?lm_api_id=cal-TsLOlBaSzgn59EU&lm_medium=newsletter&lm_source=calendar&tk=oQNVoI

Nice work last night, Changemakers! We reached out to our county representatives on the Central Virginia Transportation Authority to ask them to put more funding into alternative transit options like bike lanes, bus routes, and sidewalks rather than continuing to fund emissions-heavy roads/highways!

If you'd like to help and contact members of the CVTA and make the same request, their contact info is here: http://cvtava.org/board-members/ The voting members are: Kevin Carroll, Chesterfield Danny Avula, Richmond Rae Cousins, VA House of Delegates Sean Davis, Hanover Tyrone Nelson, Henrico. #RVA

Our next Hour of Action is this Tuesday, 7pm and Väsen Brewing in Scott’s Addition! Look for the signs pointing to the barrel room in the back! Hope to see you then! #RVA

Another fantastic Hour of Action in the books last night! We lobbied state Senators to pass bills aimed at repealing parking minimums statewide and that promote plug-in solar and give homeowners better access to home solar, as we approach the end of this year’s General Assembly session! #RVA
