This goes out to all of the yoga people. I am looking for either a book or a website with thorough text descriptions of the various poses. I do not want pictures, or audio, or video. I am deafblind, and these things are not accessible to me, and I do not have the bandwidth to run them through a transcription bot such as Aiko. I am not interested in face-to-face instruction and finding someone who knows American Sign Language who can teach me yoga face-to-face is a tall order. There are also other physical issues and I would be more comfortable doing this on my own. I do have the written instructions for the eyes free chair yoga program, but I would like to learn more poses and change things up and do more standing poses. So a nice written description either in a book or on a website would be phenomenal if anyone can point me in that direction. Much appreciated! 🧘‍♀️

@AccordionBruce @ShaulaEvans @Jacob_Wren The best performances I’ve been a part of have generally been the best compensated too.

I heartily disagree with the starving artist stereotype. I used to take low-paying jobs, thinking it would be good experience and lead to higher-paying ones. Nope. It led to more offers of low-paying jobs from people who assumed I’d work for peanuts.

Best thing I did for my music career was to stop taking the low-paying gigs. I focused on practicing more and focusing only on the jobs with a decent paycheck. Lo and behold, this led to performing with more talented musicians and decent, career-focused people.

Remains of the oldest known shipwreck, Eastern Mediterranean, just to the south of Asia Minor (Anatolia)

This was dated by the decorations on ceramic vessels, a tried and trusted method, to 2700–2400 B.C.

By the way, the three subdivisions of the Bronze Age are of rather unequal duration, to a large degree because much more is known about the later parts:
Early Bronze Age (EBA): 3500–2100;
Middle Bronze Age (MBA): 2100–1700;
Late Bronze Age (LBA): 1700–1200
(approximately).

«Prof Hakan Öniz, from Akdeniz University in Turkey»
"Ak deniz" is Turkish for "White Sea", another name of the Aegean Sea, which is right to the west of Asia Minor.

The final paragraph (hyperlinked) is:

«The oldest known shipwreck where some of the wood is still preserved was found in the Black Sea off the coast of Bulgaria. It dates to about 2,400 years ago.»

There was a substantial British-Bulgarian (Hull University?) deep sea expedition in the Black Sea several years ago and they made very impressive photographs.
Looking at one of them, I could almost hear the boatswain's whistle.
There is hydrogen sulphide dissolved in the deep waters of the Black Sea, so wood is preserved.

The rubber on my old wheelchair wheels is finally wearing down. I have been using it as my "indoor" wheelchair for awhile now because its quieter but now there are black streaks all over my floor. The thing is like 4 years old and the breaks are starting to fail on it too.

I dunno what I should do. I could always go back to using my nicer wheelchair full time inside or I could find another moderately priced one to replace it with.

I don't really have a ton of money but it is kind of convenient to have two wheelchairs that are designed for two different things. I also really, really, really, really need replacement tires for my good wheelchair the community bought me, so maybe I should just put my money towards that instead.

Does anyone who uses manual wheelchairs have any advice or input? How many wheelchairs do you have? Do you have a indoor and and an outdoor chair or do you just focus on having one all purpose chair thats really solid? If I have limited resources I'd rather just start putting my money towards things that make sense instead of wasting it on something I don't really need.

question:

I'd like to monitor temperature in 4 rooms, and drive a smart outlet in each room based on its temperature and time of day.

I'm seeing temp probes that use Zigbee or Bluetooth meshes... I have no experience in this. Any advice what I should use?

"A playlist of unimpeachably good-hearted, well-behaved musicians would probably not resemble anyone’s idea of a greatest-hits collection." -- Or maybe it would! We've never tried so we don't know.

What we do know is we tolerate, celebrate and promote people on the infants-terribles-to-sociopath spectrum and allow them to push unimpeachably good-hearted, well-behaved people out of their fields.

Which doesn't seem to be working out well so perhaps we could try something new.

@trabern There are several ways that *might* work, but probably the simplest and most likely to be effective is to give them lots of training data that explicates those ideals and argue forcefully and logically for them. The LLMs are starting to starve for training data, they need it, so just set up lots of honeypots that are easy to scrape with text as specified above. (That's the essence of the suggestions to seed smart devices with agent.md files, but for it to work it will need massive content that also links logically to other training texts.)

The problem is that research suggests people only believe AI output when it's confirming their existing biases. They only go and check for hallucinations and errors when they disbelieve or aren't sure if the response is correct. So we'll be fighting A LOT of confirmation bias when CEOs get a response that says "fairly compensate workers."

Hi guys, I am completely new to Mastodon.

It’s time to de-privatize the US government. “The problem is not just that privatization is often inefficient because it adds a nontransparent layer of profiteering on top of government functions. The problem is that government loses basic capacity.” https://prospect.org/2026/10/13/time-to-de-privatize-federal-government

An imaginative and cool use of Apollo spacecraft comms recordings.

"How do expert teams manage uncertainty and emotion when lives depend on coordinated performance? We present the first dual-channel analysis of team cognition in action: how a crew distributes information, coordination and affect between its private (crew-to-crew) and public (crew-to-ground) channels across a complete spaceflight mission. All 13,114 Apollo 11 statements (161,954 words) were coded with a validated six-category taxonomy and an emotional valence scheme. The crew expressed uncertainty at more than double the rate privately (21.11%) compared with the public channel (10.28%), while negative affect was four times more prevalent in private communication (2.82% versus 0.71%). This pattern persisted during the life-threatening descent and landing sequence. The private channel supported iterative uncertainty processing, with an uncertainty statement followed by further uncertainty in 18.78% of cases privately against 8.46% publicly, while the public channel exhibited a tight information–confirmation protocol. An expert team can thus actively partition cognitive and affective processing even under genuine life-or-death conditions, with implications for communication architecture, training and crew autonomy in future deep-space missions."

When driving, teach your kids to count cyclists, so it becomes second nature to them to look for cyclists, once they start driving.

you know what would really help me out? If any one of you has a broken Blazie Braille Lite unit, get some photos of the board inside it. If it's truly broken it's not useless that way. Photos of a true Braille Lite 2000 and 640 board would settle so much, but I'm afraid to open my own unit up in case it has the two halves connected by a ribbon cable like the Braille notes. Then you pull it too far apart and boom you broke a solder joint. Nope nope. But broken units? If you have one, it's still fair game for board pictures.
