Aaargh! Yesterday was so good. Today seems like a bit of payback for that joy? Ah well — we go on, don't we? 🙄

Woke up very late on this rainy day. Brunch of avocado toast (whole wheat toast, smoked salmon, avocado, and fried egg). Violating my rule of no coffee after noon: I suppose I'll be staying up to the wee hours tonight?

Scheduled chore was cleaning, so I suppose I'll do some of that — then see what other mischief I can get into? 😉

Happy Friday! 🙂

Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦

The USA's (Trump/Musk) betrayal of Ukraine is not a surprise, at least to me. But it is another in a never-ending catalog of reasons I am so ready for regime change here in America.

And a prime example of why I'm so grateful to all those who elected DJT into a second term of office, and even more grateful to the even larger number of US Citizens who couldn't be bothered to vote for the highly intelligent and qualified alternative, because she is black. /s

What a great game! By OT, I was prepared for it to go either way. But congratulations to Josh Allen and the entire Bills team! 🏈 🦬 🙂

A fun night of college football. I really don't care who wins in the SEC (I'm an Old School Big 10 guy... and by 10, I mean the original 10). But I do feel joy in my heart, any time Lane Kiffin suffers. Sorry LSU: you hired him, so suck it! 🤣

Reminds me of my Army days: in for PT at 5:30AM (having left the house at 4:45AM), done by 7AM (and finally awake).

I guess we can say I worked well in a system that required more discipline than I myself actually have.

Woke up lethargic again. I drank java to counteract the malaise, and eventually got myself out of the house, while it was still morning. Beautiful Fall day: we're only a few days from peak colors here in NEPA. Drove Baby Blue: had one light shower, but not enough to put the top up.

This afternoon, I feel positively perky.

So that's the key for me: I need to get outdoors promptly after waking. It would be a good bet to go for a brisk walk before breakfast.

I still miss TiVo. The interface from 2001 still blows away the crap offered up by Google with YouTubeTV.

Good things...

Continuing a very bizarre trend (given the previous 5 years), I did stuff.

• made my bed, 2nd time this month (in the morning)!
• more indoor cleaning — I'd be pleased to have this return as a regular habit
• cooking beef stew from scratch, new recipe (mmmm, the house smells good!)
• starting work on my home music studio by learning Garage Band (Mac/iOS) and Audacity
• updated equipment wishlist for home music studio: purchases will come this Winter

I've come to a decision on the "local" NFL team I support.

I'll always be a Chicago Bears fan... unless they move to Indiana.

I have selected the Buffalo Bills as my secondary team.

✅ Buffalo Bills: perpetual underdogs; also plenty of fans here in NEPA
❌ Pittsburgh Steelers: would have been my first choice, except... Aaron Rodgers? Uh no. Nope. Not ever. Never.
❌ Philadelphia Eagles: kinda OK, but in the same conference as my Bears (see also: MNF)

This month is rocketing past me. 🚀 😮

• Baby Blue was jittery on the road initially, but I think it was just her sneakers (tires) were cold? After they warmed up, she ran great, as usual
• a long catch-up email from my youngest daughter Emily — that's the best event of all!

Good things...
• it's officially Fall now, and the leaves are indeed changing colors here in NEPA
• turned on the heat today, and the new boiler/flash water heater is working great: temps are right where I set the thermostats, and the whole system is much quieter (money well spent)
• thought I lost my debit card today, but then it jumped out of my (wrong) pocket with my iPhone

I knew this day was coming.

I've already got a 2012 MacBook Air that I've been meaning to convert to Linux. But now I'll also have a 2019 MacBook Pro dangling in the wind?

Then comes the overall question of what platform(s) do I want to support/work with?

I'm not a guy who likes having all his eggs in one basket, so to speak. 😉

Well I guess that's it, then? Evidently my 2019 MacBook Pro (Intel) won't be able to update to macOS 27 (no M1+ processor). And at that point, XCode becomes useless without its upgrades.

Gonna think on this a bit. Can I afford a new MacBook Pro? Yes. But do I want one? Pondering... 🤔

Not sure who the NFL fans are here this year, but…

Is the NFL finally rediscovering the ground game???

I’m old, and like Old School football!

If you told me the Chicago Bears would blow out their opponent after giving up 37 points...

by RUNNING the football...

and without scoring any points on D or special teams... 🤔

Chris says: "Uh... whut now??" 😮

If you see ads pointing you to votesafe.org to check your voter registration, read this first.

VoteSafe is run by America PAC, Elon Musk's super PAC. It is not a government site. Its own footer says "Paid for by America PAC."

It also doesn't register anyone. The flow ends by telling you to download a PDF, print it, and mail it in yourself.

Its privacy policy (updated Aug 29, 2026) lets America PAC share your info with "business partners" for targeted marketing, or sell it. That includes whether you're registered to vote and "how you submit your vote." Popular Information found your address going to Facebook and Google, a hashed email to The Trade Desk, your usage to X, and a device fingerprint that survives cookie deletion.

VoteSafe also white-labels voter sites for allied groups, including Sentinel Action Fund and Ready to Register. North Carolina's election board warned in July that Ready to Register mailings used an outdated form, went to deceased voters, and had QR codes that could pre-populate other people's data.

To check your registration, use your state's official portal, https://vote.gov, or https://vote.org. None of them sell your data.

Good things...
• paving company called: they'll top coat my driveway on Tuesday
• eagerly anticipating running errands, because I get to drive Baby Blue
• fully appreciating the absolute natural beauty and temperate weather I enjoy here in NEPA
• weight loss (209 lbs ➡️ 202 lbs): "no snacks" plan is working
