Looking for suggestions for a way of accepting "impulse" one time donations for my project related to #freesoftware / #opensource.

Requirements:

* Not self-hosted. I'm on my own rn, so admin-ing stuff involving other people's credit card nos isn't something I want to be responsible for.

* Available for people in New Zealand.

* Easy for people who have never given anything to any free software project before.

* Doesn't force you to only use their service.

* Will take my Stripe API keys

Hey, people who know #sewing and #fabric good.

I bought some dresses (yay clearance rack). They're made of a crinkled 99% polyester, 1% elastane blend. Texture's close to this: https://wearethefabricstore.co.nz/cdn/shop/files/Japanese_Crinkle_Poly_Taffy_Swatch_2048x2048.jpg?v=1765148611

They bodice part looks nice, but the skirt is too form fitting. Can you, like, iron the wrinkles out or stretch them out in some way?

It's edible, but reminds me of UK tinned spaghetti. Still, I'd have it on toast without complaints.

Adding a few cents worth of margarine, sugar and pepper made it taste much better and edible on its own, though. Cheapest dinner I've ever had.

At 0.18 US dollar / 0.16 euro a 410g tin, shipped to the other end of the world I think they must have violated some thermodynamic laws to make it possible.

I got some suspiciously cheap canned spaghetti. 33 cents (in NZ dollars, even). Not on sale except for a clubcard discount. Like the price you'd buy it at in 1975.

It came from Italy. How is it here at that price?

I honestly can't wait to get home and find out how good/bad it is.

Certain #newzealand orgs have started preventing their staff from replying to messages from independent *.org *.com *.net addresses without going through IT staff.

Their reasoning is that the only real addresses staff will message have .nz on the end, or will be gmail.com or outlook.com

Meanwhile, I'm sitting with my .org e-mail account and wondering why the hell I keep getting ghosted.

Thank god someone told me this is what's happening.

E-mail is broken.

I was looking at the 8-12 fiction charts in a chain bookstore, right?

1 is Hairy Mclary (local legend)

2 is Harry Potter (can't stop that marketing machine I guess)

5 was Detective Beans (well deserved -- congrats on the success @exocomics)

7 was the Babysitter's Club. But why? Girls have so much better things to read these days. Is it Xillennial nostalgia?

Is there #freesoftware or #opensource machine translation for Chinese -> English? Even something janky?

Nothing comes up on internet searches.

"Acceptability of homosexuality to Dutch boys almost halved in four years. 'We hadn't expected such a sudden drop'"

Article says that now less than 40% of kids aged 11-16 think homosexuality is OK. If you look at the boys alone it's close to just 30%.

Acceptance is dropping among both Dutch kids with migration backgrounds and kids without.

Yikes.

Curious how this compares to changes in other Western countries.

I'm working on an audiobook guide on writing for digital rights activism for 11-14 year olds. In the book, we follow Amelia and Daniel, students of Liberty Heights Junior High, as they get ready to give a big speech that reveals their school has been spying on them through the webcams in their school laptops, Webgame-gate style.

Are you a native or near-native English speaker? Do you have at least the bare minimum of acting chops? Do you like #freesoftware and #privacy?

I need your voice -- especially if you're female!

Details in replies.

Please boost for visibility.

I read one of the Detective Beans books today and it's _really_ good. Obviously it's for kids, but it was still enjoyable.

The humour is very Spongebob, but not derivative.

I followed @cazabon and now my timeline is so fuzzy with bunnies 🐇

My writing workshop went well.

It's really motivating when you get to meet people face to face.

I'm putting together a list of fun/interesting things to do online without non-free javascript.

Do you know something cool?

I have obvious things like Project Gutenberg but there's got to be more I don't know. Your own sites count!

Please boost.

#poll

Went bowling. Beat my lifetime personal best: 54 lol.

Delighted to know the existence of the Dutch word speekselmonster doesn't mean the Netherlands is under threat from a spit monster.

Monster just means sample. A speekselmonster is a saliva sample.
