If my city widens the highway, and it actually makes it faster, wouldn't it become harder to find parking in the city because more cars would now drive from farther away?

Millions Of New Yorkers Are Crying Out For Mayor Mamdani To Slow Down Drivers

#TGV 8882 I'm currently sat in the car behind the power car. We **clearly** hit something, heard a pretty big rattle going under us.

- train is stopped in the middle of nowhere
- standard "don't try to open the doors" announcement
- total lack of any information
- SNCF connect knows more about it than we do: train is +40
- train manager finally announces we hit something…
- …and does another "don't open the doors" PA call
- still no mention of the +40

🙃 (possibly a 🧵, stay tuned!)

I finally did it this year. Instead of learning about this AFTER it happened, I took the day off and am taking an hour long train ride almost to Coney Island for the MTA pop up shop.

I'll only be able to stay for a short while, but if anyone else is going and to be there when it opens lmk. I got mad masto.nyc stickers

When a company says it’s making an investment in a place, we should always try to understand how they intend to make a return on it.

#Amtrak has announced that the second daily Pennsylvanian run will start on November 18. There will be one run leaving NYC in the morning and one in the afternoon, and a similar schedule for leaving Pittsburgh:

Run it, and we will ride.

Amtrak's Borealis, running daily between St. Paul and #Chicago, has become so popular they have to make the trains longer: a fourth passenger car will be added to trains starting this week.

Whenever a public transit project is announced, the price tag is always one of the first things mentioned. Meanwhile a road-widening project that will predominantly assist the wealthy getting to their cottages is just "part of $31 billion the province is spending on building, repairing and expanding highways, roads and bridges"

Is an extra lane of cottage-goers equal in importance to repairing bridges? Absurd to lump those together

#KansasCity folks be like "oh we can't have a good light rail system, we're not *that* big!" and then they just forget about the past.

That's going to be no fun.

Pope Gregory XVI (r. 1831-46) opposed building railways in the Papal State using the expression, "chemins de fer, chemins d'enfer."

The Papal State was subsequently conquered by the more industrialized Piedmont-based Kingdom of Sardinia.

To this day, the peripheral regions of the former Papal State, namely Emilia-Romagna, are left-wing out of historic resentment of the economic and social backwardness of direct papal rule.
