GET A SECOND SHAPE

you thought 67 was bad, but even that couldn't prepare you for 4

I signed out of my infosec job earlier this morning to try and sleep off a migraine, thinking "surely nothing absolutely hilarious will happy today, I won't miss anything"

only to wake up to all my socials posting a single numeric digit

"okay this is very important. being a certificate authority means that you're verifying whether a website is secure or not, so make sure the corresponding private key to your public key is secure and hard to guess"
eMudhra:

Today is a unique opportunity to yell “4” like you would “6 7”, and be understood.

FOUR

me: "I think my opsec could be better, i'm probably below average"

the industrial accident of a certificate authority: "our private key is 4"

@Tattie@eldritch.cafe i'm a USian who talks like that, so it's good to hear this perspective from someone outside of the country

it's just impossible for me to be even a little optimistic when this country has gotten worse for basically every year of my adult life (we're close to the same age), and committed most of the worst atrocities of the 21st century. there was a brief reprieve under obama, but he took the optimism and hope that millenials had, and rolled that into bailing out bankers and expanding the forever wars. same for biden, but with less hope and even more blatant atrocities. our entire political system is rotten to the core

i recognize that nihilism isn't a recipe to ever make this country better. but i think part of this is realizing how much we've been propagandized, and that the political system isn't going to be a path to making things better (though i still think that politics can be some level of harm reduction, things would be a lot better now if harris won, even though she sucks a lot)

i think this realization has come pretty recently for a lot of us (for me, it was the gaza genocide and senile joe biden covering up some of the worst war crimes of my life, though i was never an america number one person) and we don't know what to do with it yet

i wish i knew what the answer was, but i think that it's good that more and more USians realize how propagandized we are and how bad our political system is

JUSTICE FOR
THE
DOLLS

We stand in solidarity with The Dolls of Berlin and queer community centre Casa Kuà.

(⬇️ donation links at the bottom of the post)

The Dolls is a transfem community in Berlin that also does education on (DIY) HRT, these are essential resources for trans people in need of healthcare.

Last Sunday, Casa Kuà, the place where The Dolls held their event, got raided by the police. Everyone present got ID'ed, and detained. Allegedly, HRT and supplies were confiscated. Trans healthcare is not a crime, it's a bogus charge. The Dolls were doing nothing illegal, yet they were met with state violence.

The events of Stonewall and the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft are repeated right before our eyes.

Healthcare is a right, but all too often people do not have access to it. For trans healthcare this is unfortunately commonplace. Some are required to find healthcare outside of systems that are inaccessible and gatekeeping.

This will happen, period. You cannot stop people from seeking and getting life-saving gender-affirming healthcare. But there is a difference in whether this happens with the guidance of a loving and caring community or not.

HRT education, injection safety and trans communtiy are crucial and life saving. The Dolls are here to stay!

The Dolls and Casa Kuà have a fundraiser. And they could really use the money, also for potential legal expenses. So if you can spare an euro or two, or more, that'd be really nice and cool.

We stand with The Dolls. Community is not illegal. Healthcare is not a crime.

honestly i hate how search engine (google and co) have gotten useless these last few years

Google Cloud having a massive outage sure is a big "oh no! anyways" type situation

> Thanks for linking my toot, here’s another update since then: the same person that found the race condition also found that there was a performance regression on non-synthetic benchmarks. It went super fast on his little test but is complete dogshit when used in the real world! https://lwn.net/ml/all/atI0edrmeiRuRtNQ@thinkstation/

the remarkable kernel patch that remarkably convinced linus torvalds to go all-in on LLMs, remarkably running into all of the reasons why this was a horrible fucking idea

anyone with an ounce of familiarity with how LLMs function could’ve seen this coming, but not kernel boy. why wouldn’t you slop up a feature and all of its tests and its documentation and then just go on vacation so someone else can try to clean up your mess?

Did you know @snugglybun is snuggly and a bunny? :bunhdowo:

oldie but goldie: it's that time of the year again

why do I get the feeling that FUTO's goal is actually to *weaponize* the entire concept of supporting FOSS projects

like, most people are just going to see a thing that gives FOSS projects the money that is needed to keep said projects going and leave it at that

but then people look deeper and find that it's run by some filthy entities and instead of going after the entities, they go after the people who got the money

who are mostly like everyone else and didn't know

and now you have infighting tearing the project apart in more ways than one

which feels more like what FUTO is trying to accomplish

I sincerely hope that when I come back in a few hours everything isn't still *on fire*

A comma! A comma! My kingdom for a comma.

@fasterandworse What comes to my mind when I think of Firefox?

I've already made an illustration about that.
