Did booth duty for the Greens at the Kumeu Makets today. There was Green, Labour and National all right next to one another.
The Nats brought about half a dozen Young Nats. They wanted to talk to us and ask why we were in the Green Party. So I told them - brought up in Aus in a Liberal Party voting household, spent a night watching Liberal Party hoardings outside a local primary school so the Labor people didn't nick them before election day the next day. But did maths, physics, chemistry and computing and came to believe that Climate Change was a real thing, though we had 40 years before it was a problem and the people in charge would take care of it.
But in that 40 years the people in charge did not take care of it, and eventually I realised that the Someone Who Should Take Care of It has to be me, and so I joined the Greens.
They all seemed genuinely interested to hear it and also wanted to what we thought about the Nats. I said I respected that Chris Penk was a principled man although I did not agree with all his politics, and I was sorry about how he was treated.
They said they loved that we could have a discussion like that without everyone getting angry and name calling etc.
Nice kids! I hope one day they turn to the light side. :-D
