40% of *everything being shipped everywhere on Earth* is fossil fuels
Just an absolute laughing-stock clown-show of an energy source. This is laughably absurd, why do we treat this like it's normal and good
Fossil fuels are a satirical fuel

Buried inside:
"North Rhine Westphalia Police said the robot's 16-year-old owner and his companion, 19, are believed to have streamed the incident live on social media and commented on it."
So the heading could be...
"Two misogynistic teenage jerks* use robot to sexually assault teenage girl"
*The BBC probably wouldn't use the words I'd use.
sometimes the solution to your computer problems is changing algorithms and sometimes it's revolutionary violence it all depends
Just getting home now, and ginormous warm thanks to @saintkeith and @MLE_online and @fredy for a wonderful evening of chatting and hanging out.
Pencil in November 11 if you want to join us next month! More details later!
Flu shot lowers dementia risk:
Your flu shot is linked to more than a week of staying out of bed. In a study of 1.8 million adults 65 and older, those who got at least one flu vaccine were 40 percent less likely to develop Alzheimer’s over the next four years, and a 2025 meta-analysis found that people at higher risk who got more than four shots reduced their dementia risk by 57 percent.
Shingles, RSV and Tdap vaccines are tied to lower dementia risk too. Rolling up your sleeve
#GrammaticalityJudgement time!
#English speakers - I'm listening to a person in the media, she's about 35yo, white female from Wyoming, and she reliably produces this structure:
"What could've I done?"
"Where should've she gone?"
I think I would have to say:
"What could I have done?"
"Where should she have gone?"
and I don't think I can contract the 'have'
is this structure (a) grammatical/natural sounding for you? and/or (b) is it familiar?
Thanks for any thoughts!
This is not a foregone conclusion unless we allow our own apathetic cynicism to make it so — but it is certainly a real danger against which we need to fight hard.
i wonder if there is a relationship between being really good at repairing things and also being comfortable with things being kinda broken or in disrepair
@mayintoronto I tell people I'm "she, like a storm or a ship," which is to say, not a woman, but a she/her user nonetheless
"It's already here, what do you mean you think you can refuse?" is just another variation of the agency-stealing inevitability narrative. The future is not yet written, and we can shape it, starting with rejecting inevitability and claiming our agency.

plz vote for your preferred #triangleTootup date(s). time will be evening (7 or so in the evening) at tap yard because it is close to me and they have ample indoor and outdoor seating. november 22 is TTP's actual birthday.
I did not expect myself to ever care this much about screw head standards, nor to encounter that others also cared about this as much as I do.
Big news in my little world: next month I’ll become the owner of the bookshop where I work. It’ll be amazing; for now, though, I’m digging into the nuts and bolts of starting a business, because other than the inventory and bookshelves, I’ll basically be starting from scratch.
The biggest decision to make now is what POS system to use, because we’ll do final inventory under the current ownership November 2 to 4 and I’d like to list the inventory in the new system as part of that process. Bookmanager’s waiting list is closed for a year, whereas I’ll be looking for a system to be up and running by the end of this month. Any advice on that? We’re on Shopify now, but I think it might be more than I’m looking for, going forward. The shop is teeny-tiny, and I’m into simplicity (including zero AI) but would like to accept all modes of payment. I’ve heard suggestions for Square, with which my experiences have been mixed in the past, and Basil Lite, which I’d never heard of. . . .
@scott you've already had mentions here & in replies of the biggest options (for the US market at least) but in case it's helpful, I keep a running list of Really Big Bike Trailers to daydream about.

I am now #carfree! I have been debating trying to live without a car for some time now, and the timing finally aligned to give it a go. Theoretically between transit, ride shares, rentals, and my cargo bike this should be doable, but we'll see. #biketooter
@scott We moved house entirely by bicycle, and we relied on a Carla Cargo trailer for furniture: https://www.carlacargo.de/products/carla
Crucially it has its own braking system, an overrun brake which triggers when the bicycle in front brakes. That way it doesn't affect the handling much, and you don't have to worry about jackknifing as much.
I hear it may be harder to source now because the partnership with Tern ended, so they may not have a US distributor anymore?
You know how Mario goes invincible and runs fast when he gets a star power-up?
I ate one of my friend N's cinnamon knots and went for a run. Very similar effect.
I *may* have been pulsing with light.
Question that I'd like to answer without imposing on the thread that raised it:
Oldheads like myself remember that landline telephones ran on their own separate power supply - in a blackout, landlines still worked fine.
Now that we''ve moved to cellular, I know cellphones don't have the same quality even if the infrastructure - phones, towers, interlinks - is all still battery backed.
My question is - is the old phone-line nostalgia badly misplaced because of wireless handsets in the house?

I mean, honk interpretation is not a definitive science ... but it kinda seems like bro is with the people 💗
At any rate, way to get it done, Toronto. RAWR. ✊🏻
A lot of people I know shared posts about the Yandex datacenter bombing resulting in a decrease in Russian misinformation/disinformation bot activity, sometimes with charts. Let this be a reminder every one of us could be fooled by a story that we really want to be true.
