Dragonflies ➡️ Scroll for more

Seemed to never land, these guys hovered just long enough to get some photos at the lake. Needed a higher shutter speed 1/1250 was just too slow.

Song Sparrow 🎵

This morning bird was striking a pose in some very dark conditions on the beach. Did a lot of painting with light here, glad I could save some details.

Chipmunk 🐿️

A chipmunk eats a snack, bulking up for winter along coastal Washington.

Been awhile! Very busy and still feeling unmotivated and creative, but I did get out over the weekend and got a few nature shots. Hopefully find some more time and inspiration, but look forward to catching up on everyone's posts soon! Hope you're all doing well!

Probably shouldn't have taken this photo with my camera (don't recommend), but with smokey skies I took the risk and the camera survived.

Turkey Vulture

These guys were active the other day! A few weeks back I posted one from far away perched in a tree. This one flew right over me and thankfully I saw it coming. I had my shutter speed too low at 1/500, but luckily it glided over slow enough to get one sharp photo, and probably the one that mattered most. Lucky!

Meet the Merlin

This little Falcon is called a Merlin. Fast and agile, I've watched it chasing small birds around but haven't witnessed a catch yet. Maybe that's for the better, these birds are all monsters in real life haha 😂

Pipe on the Beach

#texturetuesday

This rusted old fuel pipe was ran to shore over the reef likely during WWII in Guam. A few years ago it served as a fun frame to photograph the waves coming in from my old phone. Actually it's very impressive how much of the pipe in intact on these concrete blocks.

Tide Exposed Anemone

Looking for seaweed photos, I found these anemones out of the water within the tidal zone.

I give you my #shittember submission. The Mandarinfish.

Created by @NotAHopeImHades and additionally inspired by @dkerr.dev and @arcturus. These photos have never been shared and give me anxiety nearly 2 years after the fact.

My wife and I went to Palau (extremely beautiful) and took this amazing kayak tour through a bunch of saltwater lagoons and the last stop was "Mandarinfish Lake". I dragged my camera and enclosure with us all day specifically for this stop. I didn't know if we'd actually see this rare fish, but one of the guides saw one.

A bunch of people crowded around snorkeling and it was off to a bad start. Eventually people got bored and wandered off. I stayed and watched, and tried and tried and tried to photograph this fish as it "jumped" from coral to coral and disappeared.

It was cloudy and dark, the fish was tiny and fast. The few shots I got looked good on the viewfinder. I had spent about an hour with this fish and it was time to move on, mission accomplished!

And every single photo was out of focus and blurry. Shutter speed too slow and focus on the coral bumps instead of the fish. Face behind coral. You may say the first and last photos are good, but there is zero detail. This was probably my most disappointing experience as a photographer that I've ever had.

Coral on a Piling

Last night I randomly clicked into this album and saw this photo. I took this immediately after camera upgrade #2 in Guam and while I really liked it, I went searching to see if I had more from later on, or better yet from camera upgrade #3 haha... Unfortunately I didn't. Over a year and a half of time and I never took another one here. Big regrets!

Oh well, this was a favorite little spot when I just started snorkeling. Usually calm and protected inside the reef, it's a reserve and a viewing center where you can walk downstairs underwater. There's tons of fish and even some sharks that called it home thanks to feedings by the staff.

But this little cluster of corals was home to this little school of damselfish and they would all go out and contract back into hiding from you or larger fish. Fun to watch, really beautiful spot. Bonus Unicornfish

Great Blue Fisher(heron)man

I watched this bird pluck several fish off the ocean floor. This spot provides some challenging but dramatic lighting as the sun is mostly hidden behind a mountain shading the beach in the morning.

Sea of Life

Ok friends, looking for some real feedback here.

I'm hoping to get into a partnership with some.locak businesses to display and sell some photos. A local cafe has a "Seaweed" theme and I've gone through some existing photos and have kept an eye out the last couple of months. Looking to present these as some options. I tried to focus on the life that seaweed provides and its importance to the ecosystem.

If you have any favorites, think any should be removed/replaced, or photos should be re-arranged/composed, please let me know!

Anyone have experience pitching a visual portfolio to anyone? Looking for the best presentation tool.

Thank you!

Another Fish from Gaum 🐠

The Pinktail Triggerfish

This may be the best photo I have of one. The darker fish are particularly difficult to photograph to get details in the shadows and not over expose. Takes a bright day and or lights.

Can you spot the turkey vulture? ➡️

If I didn't watch it fly in I doubt I'd have ever noticed it. Slightly smaller than a bald eagle, they're also huge birds (dinosaurs!).
