When you have to close all the windows quickly because a skunk has gone off nearby

I need a basic but not stupid book on how LLMs and AIs actually work

It seems like those bikes with huge, puffy, fat tires would have much higher rolling resistance

I have lost track of an earbud

Difficult

I'm so tired and weak. I can't get anything done. I can't go on like this.

I hope my doctor has some idea.

I have an idea or two of my own.

I think we'll figure it out.

Vigil for Sunkist Fruit Slices

Two of my friends on here got hit by cars in the last couple of weeks

Actually I suppose one should emphasize they got hit by people, using cars. The combination is essential to the dynamic

No matter what embarrassing thing I did while young there was no danger I’d be surreptitiously filmed and become a globally famous meme

Made the call, no answer, machine hung up on me

Emailed some people there to see if they could at least tell me who to get in touch with

why am I fighting this phone call so hard? I've been perseverating about it for several days

I'm using meds to be able to do it today and I'm still having trouble

it's not a very stressful call even. nothing bad

it's just there, something I need to take care of

I was very young when he passed away, but I knew him and I remember him. He arrived in the US in 1913. I have his fancy kippah (probably bought in the States not actually all that long ago, but it was his) and a matzoh cloth his wife Bessie, my great-grandmother, embroidered. I knew her too.

I also have a pair of prayer book covers for siddurim that supposedly belonged to *his* grandfather. I can't verify that, but I'm glad to have those, too.

My great-grandfather left his shtetl in the Pale and came to America for three reasons.

1) to avoid the pogroms.

2) to avoid impressment and involuntary service in the Czar's army.

(I thought that was a hell of a thing. Either the cossacks come and try to kill you, or you could be forced into the military to serve involuntarily for twenty years. Or both!)

3) To get away from the Rabbi. He was sick of it. Sick of the stifling traditional life.

Interestingly, if any of the people currently cancelling #Macklemore actually cared about anti-Semitism, they’d all have canceled him in 2014, after the costume incident, and we wouldn’t be talking about him getting fired from a tour he would never have been hired for in the first place

Thing is, Macklemore actually is anti-Semitic.

Not because of what he said about Palestine, obviously.

Because of the time he dressed up on stage as a hook-nosed Jewish caricature.

So let’s please cancel #Macklemore for the correct reasons, not the wrong ones
