Earlier in the month, I mentioned a butcherbird nest ( https://mastodon.social/@Cheeseness/117385167599372983 ). I got my first glimpse of the chicks this morning. A silent wide mouthed trio, with a clear dominant sibling

Saw them again this morning. From the back with their feathers buffed out, I thought for a moment they were an adult and got a bit closer than I would have if I'd have known it was the little one. They seemed a little nervous, but didn't fly away when I backed off.

I met my tiny friend again this morning. I nearly didn't spot them because I was focused on their mum taking food up to a nest - seems like there are two babies!

Hello small friend
#photography #birds

I met someone new (much older than my first sighting of a baby normally would be, but magpies have been pretty scarce since my friend died and I wonder if that's affected things ;_; )

And some little guys too

Good bunch of spiders out this morning

This morning, I spied a nest, witnessed a hoverfly coming in for what turned out to be an unsuccessful landing, hung out with a wattlebird, and met this nice snootdude

Baskin'

A series of missed shots (I enjoy these as a collection because they communicate some of the juxtaposition between the soft intimacy of flowers and the often frenetic energy of foraging bees)

I met this fellow this morning, and spent a bunch of time convincing them it was OK to climb onto a leaf so that I could get them off the footpath. Then I continued on and found another dozen of their brethren spread out down the path (most were close to the edge, but a couple seem to have suffered one misfortune or another - that's life ;_; )

So, just to unpack the timeline here, first they hack us, then they "support" us by giving credits for their cyber defence initiative. Reparations in cash after legal proceedings instead, please.

Probably should've crouched down to get a more stable recording, but I was wary of spooking them by moving (and I ran out of batteries before I was done >_< )

They grow up so fast (two different families, but a good illustration of both ends of chick-hood). Look at those little wings

My little "flapformer" Bat Egg turns 5 years old today. Happy hatchday Bat Egg. To celebrate, I've prepared a little patch that has some tutorial improvements, a new gameplay setting (with defaults that make the game a little easier), and a new unlockable skin. Enjoy 🦇 🥚🎉
