Cool animal I've never heard of until today.

I did a little bit of genetic research on my own genome and discovered this:

rs762551 AA - Fast metabolizer of caffeine
rs5751876 CC - Less likely anxiety after consuming caffeine
rs4410790 GG - High drive to consume caffeine

Stuck behind a slow freight train again. Why they run freight trains on main commuter routes at peak commuting time I do not know.

Anyone else have this experience, when I've been awake all night, even though I'm extremely tired the next day there's an odd feeling of reality being more real?

Also I found the cutest case for it 🍰🍬🍅🍭🍊🍦

I recently picked up a Switch 2 with Mario Kart World from Very for £332 using the 30% off coupon for signing up for their credit thing. It was actually cheaper to buy the game separately instead of getting the bundle. It's the first new console I've bought since the Wii (I skipped the Wii U and original Switch). I was surprised it used buttons instead of a d-pad, that's certainly a decision from the company that invented it.

I can't go on eBay now without meeting the wall of slop

"When I first came up with the term [Software Engineering], no one had heard of it before, at least in our world. It was an ongoing joke for a long time. They liked to kid me about my radical ideas. It was a memorable day when one of the most respected hardware gurus explained to everyone in a meeting that he agreed with me that the process of building software should also be considered an engineering discipline, just like with hardware."

Apparently, Bravely Default is a video game, not a bold and reckless strategy for dealing with the national debt.

I'm not a big fan of asynchronous, event-driven systems after many years of working with them. You get a whole class of fun new bugs you just wouldn't get with a straightforward synchronous program. I will prefer the synchronous approach if I can get away with it, but sometimes it's unavoidable due to the nature of the problem.

Very seems to have two parallel email systems for order status information operating simultaneously. It sends out one email with the subject "Great news your order is on its way!" and another with the subject "Good news - your order is on its way". One is clearly the "old" system because the email is formatted in an old-fashioned way, with HTML tables, and the other is formatted with modern design sensibilities.

If I forget a Wi-Fi network on a Mac, it will also forget it on any other Mac logged in to the same account and disconnect them if they were connected! That was weird and unexpected behaviour, but I guess it makes sense to sync Wi-Fi credentials for convenience.

I was previously using Samba but it was slow and unreliable, NFSv4 makes it work as if they were local filesystems. I treat my server like a glorified external disk drive.

I spent the whole evening tweaking NFS configuration on my Linux server and my Mac Mini and I finally have it working so I can access my files easily on my Mac like I can on Linux, with shortcuts in finder that automount on demand. That was way harder than it should be! (I first had to troubleshoot why I couldn't mount anything)

I have a little Evercade collection, no console to play them on yet though. I pre-ordered the Evercade Nexus which I think is being released at the end of October. #retrogaming #evercade

I bought some full-spectrum LED bulbs, but unfortunately I can't use them because they emit an annoying buzzing noise.

Google Maps is probably my most successful social media platform. I've got 3 million photo views.

For some reason I'm not receiving verification code emails today so I can't log in to anything that requires them.
