i'm thinking about open sourcing my plugins under the GPL ... and I want to keep selling them...

ideally, I want to build something like the community around airwindows but focused on the weird kinds of processing that's most exciting to me (and hopefully others)... (i could also target platforms like supercollider which need GPL)

my thought is, to avoid constant scrapers, and to encourage actual social engagement, to have there be an about screen where you can get an email address that you write to to receive a copy of the source... my cartoon is that this is OK for the GPL?

I'm trying to remind myself: There were too many people yesterday to shoot. That's why they shot someone today.

That's why we have to get really, really big. That's why we can't wait for them to come for our city. They don't have to force required to occupy all our towns at the same time. There are more of us than them and when we all shut it down together we are safer.

There is no time for us to be small, to be orderly, to walk on the sidewalk. It's too dangerous. We need to be bigger, more disruptive in more places at once. We need a *wide* diversity of tactics and to have each other's back.

We need a national, sustained, horizontal, organized general strike. We need to get serious about feeding each other, communicating with each other, and keeping each other in the fight.

We need real solidarity and we need it now.

anyone using #zig for #audio #DSP stuff? Everything i read about the language makes me really excited to try it. Today I learned it has support for manual simd out of the box which looks really great.

So I'm looking to get off of github. Right now source hut looks appealing for my needs. Is there any way to set up something like github-actions remote runners using source hut? I use remote runners right now to do MacOS and Windows builds/code signing for my VST plugins on machines I own and control.

It looks like the source hut build service only offers linux images for their server builds but is there a way to trigger an automatic build on my local machines with some kind of git hook? Do I need another kind of CI technology for this or could I reasonably do this with a shell script for each platform?

I've seen a recent flush of articles criticising environmental concerns around "AI" as nonsensical based on estimated joules per chatbot query. I find this baffling as
a) we have no empirical measurement of the energy required
b) like other issues of computer energy use most of the energy is "embodied" in the raw material and manufacturing stages of the lifecycle (not to mention training and infrastructure) and
c) computation in general is already a climate problem responsible for ~3% global emissions (Freitag et al. 2021)

We need to be manufacturing less chips, not more. New software needs to use less computer and memory, not more.
