Energy rates are high right now, so I'm experimenting with Agile Outgoing, which has been higher than fixed rate pretty much all day for the past week.

Predbat has picked up the tarrif changes, and now it has plans for my little solar setup:
Export directly in the morning when the rates are good, leaving the battery idle.
At lunch, when the rates drop a little, we're going to charge the battery and then discharge it at peak rates, getting to the end of the day with a 15% buffer

If you have GivEnergy, Fox or Sigenergy #solar #PV kit, Axle VPP has been working pretty well for the last month, and I feel reasonably confident recommending it.

Decided to upgrade one of my Proxmox nodes to a shiny kaby lake i7 because I'm unlikely to feel that I can justify buying 64gb-96gb of DDR5 any time, and 64g of DDR4 on a quad is enough to survive for a week if the bigger Ultra 5 265k goes pop...

Love how easy it is to shut down a node in my 2 node proxmox cluster and do basic maintenance.

- UK Politicians (Making a meeting room in the salad crisper section of the fridge might cause some confusion, but *worth it*)
- Nuclear Accidents (Higher INES Level = Higher Floors)
- Famous UK towns and cities (Hard to pronounce names to fuck with the yanks. Worcester, Norwich, Edinburgh, Billericay, etc) 2/2

We need a pick new names for the meeting rooms in our UK offices of a US company. Good ideas seem hard to come by (it'll likely be something generic). But *bad* ideas, now those we could have fun with

- Famous UK trains (By BR TOPS number only)
- UK Soaps (Rikki and Bianca to be placed next to each other)
- Alan Rickman Characters (Hans Gruber on the top floor, obviously)
- Monty Python Scenes (Coconuts provided)
- Cheeses (I'll meet you in Stinking Bishop at 10) 1/2

@revk spotted this on Reddit, is this actually you, just surprised that you'd build a page and not reference it on GitHub. And the au domain feels weird...

My Rollei is back on service after a battery recell. Nice to have it back

NESO have the interim report for the North Hyde substation fire, if anybody is interested

And finally, @neil because he started the original thread on this, and some of the above might be helpful

Overall, what I'll have with HAOS will likely be better in the medium term than HA Core, certainly upgrades should be less painless, and compiling Python from source was kind of a pain.
Replacements for the shell scripts will likely be more robust than those they replaced.

But it's a lot of change for older installs, and I'm a smidge frustrated with maintainers claiming it's minimal work because there is a backup function. OTOH, their dev time is probably better spent elsewhere. 5/5

-- AppDaemon needed a lot more Python than the shell scripts they largely replaced. TBH, GPT is pretty decent for hacky scripts and debugging.
- HACS works well, and I could just delete custom_components that had been manually downloaded, and fire off HACS to replace them.

-- I moved some of my command_line sensors (An SNMP Poll which pulls data from an APC ATS which I use for power redundancy) to a different box, and fed the same data via MQTT. This was moderately painless as I already have other servers, and have MQTT running
-- Others moved to AppDaemon, which was frustrating TBH. The config files are written to a location you can't actually see in file manager (/addon_configs) unless you enable a hidden setting
-- AppDaemon seems OK once configured
3/?

- Config editor means you need to install the file editor addon

Once I got that changed, MOST stuff came to life, including the custom_components, which were backed up with the rest. However
- It's not a general purpose linux enviro, so
-- APCUPSD is an official integration, but there isn't any support for running APCUPSD on HAOS
-- Running functions like command_line sensors to run shell scripts are out. TBH, this was the most time consuming part of the migration (Most of a weekend, TBH)

This weekend I've mostly been working on my #HomeAssistant Install.

With the proposed deprecation of Core, I've decided to finally move from core to home assistant OS https://community.home-assistant.io/t/feedback-requested-deprecating-core-supervised-i386-armhf-armv7/

Honestly, it feel short of the advertised backup-restore-done.

My config dates back about 7-8 years

- MySQL databases, which was absolutely essential when I first installed, aren't really all that supported. I decided to dump the history, but needed to edit the config to get it to boot 1/?

Don't think of it as a Halting Problem, think of it as a Halting Opportunity

One spring has broken on my 3.2 year old Sureflap Microchip Cat Flap Connect.
Sure say it's not a part they carry spares for, so go buy a new £139 catflap.

The waste is just incredible...

This added to their ongoing campaign to prevent local control of the device, and then complain and do user-agent blocking when people use the cloud service.

I'm looking at it and wondering if I could make an open source catflap... I have a 3d printer, ESP32...
