There’s one thing about watching/imaging the Northern Lights is that you never really know what you’re going to get - apart from the ubiquitous satellites. Last night there was a lot of diffuse colour in the sky with purples higher up and even some airglow #Aberdeenshire #Scotland #Aurora

If I could only shoot one thing for the rest of my days, it would be woodland. I'll admit that it took me a LONG time to wrap my head around the chaos. But there's something quite cathartic about the pursuit of order in the middle of it.

Is it always easy? Not in the slightest, but there is definitely something rewarding when you manage to pull it off.

A few years ago, I shot a long-term project in a local woodland. I think it took a couple of years. I called it 'The Dark Wood'.

This was the principal photo from the project, and I lovingly called it 'Fangorn'. I guess, if you know you know.

Anyway, there's nothing I like more than wandering aimless around dark woodlands with my camera. The atmosphere can be intoxicating, if you let it get under your skin.

Happy Thursday from sunny Madeira 👋☀️

I didn’t realise #silentsunday was a thing until I got here. So, here’s one for today.

One of the things that I love so much about black and white photography, is that it strips out colour which, whilst lovely to look at, can distract from a good composition. B&W helps me to show, in a clearer way, the image

Colour would distract because of the blue-green of the water, the yellow of the small individual tiles, and the reddish colour of the stone. You might miss gentle curves, light hitting the metal, and the tonal range of the scene.

This is one of my all-time favourite images. It was taken as we were sailing slowly into Isafjordur, in Iceland. Originally taken in colour (it does look rather lovely in colour!), I wondered what it might look like in monochrome.

I have to say that I like this version even more. There’s something about the clouds and the boat that just pulls everything together.

Just lovely.

Can we grow tomatoes without spraying them ? The answer is yes. We don't have to poison the soil, kill living organisms and degrade the soil in order to produce food. It's not too late for us to care more about nature than a high produce and more profits from farm produce . We're so proud of the tomatoes we harvested today which survived the heavy drought and diseases without having chemicals on them.

Which are you today?
